It is very easy to burn a CD in linux. just enter the following command in the terminal window:

Cdrecord-v-eject speed = 8dev =/dev/cdwriter driveropts = burnfree test. iso

Cdrecord software is generally available in the release. if the system is not installed, it should be available in your installation disk.

The parameters are as follows:
-V outputs as much verification information as possible
-After the eject is burned, the disc is displayed.
Speed = 8 specify the burner speed

Dev =/dev/cdwriter (you can view it under/dev)
Driveropts = burnfree enables the burn protection technology that prevents cache usage (see man cdrecord)
Test. iso: name of the iso file to be burned

Some special instructions in this example
A. If the recorder can be identified, you do not need to execute-scanbus.
In centos5, an error is reported when you execute cdrecord-scanbus.
Use the following command:
Cdrecord dev = ATA-scanbus to output the device list and ID correctly
The optical drive is ATA:, 0, and so on.

B. the/dev/cdwriter-hdc is automatically identified by centos5 on the device name.
If it is not identified, change it to dev = ATA:, 0, or 0.

C. Generally, you do not need to add -- speed because cdrecord will automatically detect the optimal burning speed.

D. None of the tutorials on the Internet are protected against cache burning.
SanyoBURN-Proof, Ricoh Just-Link, Yamaha Lossless-Link and other technologies
Add the corresponding parameter driveropts = burnfree.

E. The cdrecord program that comes with CentOS5 is a specially modified version that supports recording CD and various DVD media.
So you don't need to find any other DVD recording software.

You can use the following command to create an iso file:

Mkisofs-r-o sample. isomy_private is made into an iso file.-r indicates that all file attributes are readable for all users, and-o indicates output.

Additional:

1. create a CD image file

$ Mkisofs-R-o/var/tmp/oracle. iso/home/oracle

$ Mkisofs-o myiso. iso/home/oracle/data

Note: mkisofs can make the specified directory and file into an image file in ISO 9660 format for burning the disc.

Parameters:
-A or -- all mkisofs usually does not process backup files. You can use this parameter to add the backup file to the image file.
- <应用程序id> Or-appid <应用程序id> Specifies the application ID of the CD.
-Abstract <摘要文件> Specifies the name of the summary file.
-B <开机映像文件> Or-eltorito-boot <开机映像文件> Specifies the boot image file required to create a boot CD.
-Biblio specifies the ISBN file name. The ISBN file is located in the root directory of the disc and records the ISBN of the disc.
-C <开机文件名称> When you create a boot-able disc, mkisofs will upload all-eltorito-catalog in the boot image file. <开机文件名称> Make all the content into a file.
-C <盘区编号,盘区编号> This parameter is required when many sections are merged into an image file.
-Copyright <版权信息文件> Specifies the file name of the copyright information file.
-D or-omit-period is the end time after the object is omitted.
-D or-disable-deep-relocation ISO 9660 can only process a maximum of eight levels of directories. for more than eight layers of directories, RRIP automatically sets them to ISO 9660 compatible formats. Use the-D parameter to disable this function.
-F or-follow-links ignores symbolic connections.
-H: displays help.
-Hide <目录或文件名> Hide the specified directory or file in the ISO 9660 or Rock RidgeExtensions system.
-Hide-joliet <目录或文件名> Hide the specified directory or file in the Joliet system.
-J or-joliet uses the directory and file name in Joliet format.
-L or-the full-iso9660-filenames uses an ISO 9660 32-character file name.
-L or-allow-leading-dots allows the first character of the file name to be a full stop.
-Log-file <记录文件> If an error message is displayed during execution, it is displayed on the screen by default.
-M <目录或文件名> Or-exclude <目录或文件名> The specified directory or file name will not be stored in the image file.
-M <映像文件> Or-prev-session <映像文件> Merge with the specified image file.
-N or-omit-version-number omit the version information in the ISO 9660 file.
-O <映像文件> Or-output <映像文件> Specifies the name of the image file.
-P <数据处理人> Or-preparer <数据处理人> The data handler who records the CD.
-Print-size: displays the estimated file system size.
-Quiet does not display any information during execution.
-R or-rational-rock uses Rock Ridge Extensions and opens the read permission for all files.
-R or-rock uses Rock Ridge Extensions.

-Sysid <系统id> The system ID of the specified disk.
-T or-translation-table is used to create a file name conversion table, which is applicable to systems that do not support Rock Ridge Extensions.
-V or-verbose displays detailed information during execution.
-V <光盘id< p>

2. Burn cd

If you are using an atapi cd drive, you no longer need a SCSI device number to burn data into the drive. You can enter the device name (such as dev =/dev/cdrom) without entering the SCSI device number. However, if you have a SCSI cd drive, you must determine the SCSI bus number, device ID number, and logical unit number (LUN) of the drive before writing an image file to the drive ), you can find the SCSI device number used by the CD drive. Run the cdrecord command with only one parameter-scanbus

$ Cdrecord-scanbus

This command will display all the (re) writable disc devices on your computer. Write down the address of the device you want to use to engrave the disc. The following is an output example after running cdrecord-scanbus:

Cdrecord 1.8 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jorg Schilling
Using libscg version 'schily-100'
Scsibus0:
0, 0, 0 )*
0, 1, 0 1 )*
0, 2, 0 2 )*
0, 3, 0 3) 'HP ''CD-Writer + 9200'' 1. 0c' Removable CD-ROM
0, 4, 0 4 )*
0, 5, 0 5 )*
0, 6, 0 6 )*
0, 7, 0 7 )*

To engrave the backup file image created using mkisofs, switch to the root user, and enter the following command at the shell prompt:

# Cdrecord-v-eject speed = 4 dev = 0, 3, 0 -- data/var/tmp/backup. iso

The above command sets the write speed to 4, the device address to 0, 3, and 0, and the write output to verbose (-v ), this is helpful for tracking the status of the engraved process. -After the eject parameter is completed, the disc is displayed. This command can also be used to burn ISO image files downloaded from the Internet, such as Red Hat Linux ISO images.

You can use cdrecord to clear a rewritable CD to reuse it by typing the following command:

Cdrecord -- dev = 0, 3, 0 -- blank = fast

For the atapi cd drive, since the cd drive is/dev/cdrom, the command line should look like:

# Cdrecord-v speed = 2 dev =/dev/cdrom-data/var/tmp/backup. iso

-After the eject parameter is installed, a cd is displayed.

-V parameter: displays information during burning.

3. burn a dvd

Verify that your drive supports dvd burning and removes the disc from the optical drive. run the following command:

# Cdrecord-prcap-dev =/dev/cdrom | less

The command output shows that the drive supports cd and dvd burning. use the dvd + rw-format command to format the dvd + rw media, and then use the command to write the image File: # cdrecord-v speed = 2 dev =/dev/cdrom-data bigimage. cd

You can also use growisofs to record a CD or a dvd.
