Ext4 file system real performance-general Linux technology-Linux programming and kernel information, the following is a detailed description. From: http://linux.solidot.org/
The EXT4 file system will be integrated into the Linux 2.6.28 kernel to be released. Some distributions may also choose it as the transition before btrfs. Phoronix has conducted a series of Disk-related and practical application tests, and compared the results with the EXT3, XFS, and ReiserFS file systems. Test Machine is Intel Xeon E5320 quad core processor, 2G DDR2 FB-DIMM RAM, 160GB hard drive, ASUS GeForce 9600GT 512MB graphics card, system is Fedora 10 x86_64, Linux 2.6.27 kernel, X Server 1.5.3, GNOME 2.24.1, GCC 4.3.2, and IcedTea 1.3.1.
In 19 tests, such as Bonnie ++ and other disk tests, Ext4 did win the competition. However, in actual application, the results are not very different from each other. In many tests, EXT3 is better than EXT4, and XFS and ReiserFS are not inferior. The test conclusion is that EXT4 is competent as an EXT3 upgrade. It adds some new functions, but the actual performance is not improved much. With the arrival of btrfs, the life of EXT4 is relatively short.
