The Summer of ora Summer Coding is where students participate in open-source projects and get funding from Red Hat. Each student receives funding for $2500 USD or $5000 USD.

"Customizable software installer" is one of the projects. The software installer is the GPK in Fedora and the new program In Debian.

The project aims to be "customizable" and will complete the following functions:

You can modify the description of the software, such as adding a comment.
You can add software entries as long as the software is in the Fedora source. You only need to provide a package name.
You can delete software entries.
After the user's permission, the changes made by the user can be uploaded to the web service of google app-engine.
Supports plug-ins. You can add custom APIs.

The project adds code to Ailurus. Ailurus lists specific software for specific tasks, rather than listing all the software in the Fedora source. Users can quickly find the desired software, rather than searching in a large list. See http://ailurus.googlecode.com for details
