Android software development refers to the process of creating a new Android operating system. It is usually developed using the Android Software Development Kit (SDK) in the Java language.

Android SDK

The Android Software Development Kit (SDK) includes a comprehensive set of development tools. These include debuggers, library files, a QEMU-based phone simulator, documentation, sample code, and tutorials. Currently supported development platforms include computers that can run Linux, Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, and Windows XP or later. As of March 2015, the Android SDK itself is no longer available, but software development is possible with a dedicated Android application.

Around the end of 2014, the officially supported integrated development environment (IDE) is eclipse using the Android development tools (ADT) plugin, although IntelliJ Ideaide (all editions) fully supports Android development, The Netbeanside also supports Android development via plugins.
Android apps are packaged in apk format stored in Data/app under the Android operating system folder (for security reasons, the folder only allows root user access). The APK package contains. dex files (compiled bytecode files), resource files, and so on.

Android Debug Bridge

Android Debug Bridge (ADB) is a toolkit included in the Android SDK package. It contains both client and server-side programs and can communicate with each other. ADB is typically accessed through the command line interface, although there are many graphical user interfaces that control adb.

The format for issuing commands via ADB is typically:
adb [-d|-e|-s <serial number>] <command>

For example, an Android app can save a file by command, and its name is Backup.ab by default.

FastBoot

The Quick Launch is a diagnostic protocol that includes the SDK package, which modifies the Flash file system primarily via a USB connection from the host. The device it needs will start in a boot loader or auxiliary program mode, where only the most basic hardware is initialized. When the protocol is enabled on the device, it will accept a specific set of commands sent to it using the command line via USB. Some of the most commonly used fastboot commands include:

flash– rewrite partitions on the host with binary image storage
erase– Erase specific partitions
reboot– Restart the device for the primary operating system, the system recovers the partition or goes back to its boot loader
devices– all devices in the display list (with serial numbers) to the host
format– format session specific partition, partition file system must be recognized by the device

Android NDK

Library files that can be compiled into arm,mips or x86 source code in c,c++ and other languages as Android Native Development Kit (NDK). The source class can be used back from the System.load library running on the Dalvik virtual machine, which is part of the standard Android Java class.

A complete application can be compiled and installed using traditional development tools. However, depending on the Android development documentation, the NDK should not be used to develop applications alone simply because developers prefer to program in C/s + + when using the NDK adds complexity while most applications do not benefit from the use.

Unlike Java application development, which is based on an IDE such as Eclipse, the NDK is a command-line-based tool and requires manual setup, deployment, and debugging of the application when called.
