In early May, Google's reliability testing engineer and Debian developer Jimmy Kaplowitz announced that Google will not only add Debian 6.0 and 7.0 images to the GCE (GoogleComputeEngine, it also uses Debian Linux as its default server image.
Kaplowitz is one of the only Debian developers working for Google. He wrote: "Today, we are adding Debian images to GCE. Through our efforts, we provide images for Debian7.0 'wheely' and Debian6.0 'squeeze. This kind of support makes it easier for people to use Debian to migrate workloads to the Compute Engine ."
With the release of Debian's next major version: Debian7.0, Google also added this version and its predecessor version 6.0 on GCE. Google also updated its operating system's image files and will support Debian through its consistent GCE support package.
In addition, GCE will continue to support Red Hat javasiselinux (RHEL) cloning CentOS. Ubuntu is supported and is no longer a primary GCE distribution. Advanced users can also set and use their own Linux images. However, you cannot run any non-linux operating system on GCE. (Wang Xudong/compile Zhong Hao/review)
