To install Ubuntu 12.04 on a hard disk in windows, follow these steps:

1.Download ubuntu 12.04

   : Http://releases.ubuntu.com/

   The download in this article is: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin); PC (Intel x86) desktop CD;

   File Name: ubuntu-12.04-beta1-desktop-i386.iso

2.Download grub4dos

   : Http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2009-01/18027.htm

   The grub4dos-0.4.4.zip is downloaded in this article

3.Set the startup Item

   (1)decompress grub4dos-0.4.4.zip;

   (2) Open the menu. lst file under the grub4dos-0.4.4 directory with a WordPad;

   (3) Add the following content at the end of the menu. lst file:

   (4)copy grldr, grldr.mbr, grub.exe, and menu. lst under the grub4dos-0.4.4directory to the C: \ directory;

   (5) copy the ubuntu-12.04-beta1-desktop-i386.iso to the C: \ directory, and extract the initrd. lz and vmlinuz files under the casper directory in the file to the C: \ directory;

   (6)start the DOS command line program cmd.exe:

      Find cmd.exe in System Disk C: \ windows \ system32, right it, and select "Run as administrator". Otherwise, the bcdedit command cannot be used. In the doscommand line window, run the following command:

Bcdedit/create/d "GRUB4DOS"/application bootsector

The result of this command should return a GUID, which is used by the subsequent command

Bcdedit/set {GUID} device partition = C:

Bcdedit/set {GUID} path \ grldr. mbr

Bcdedit/displayorder {GUID}/addlast

   (7) set the system startup time:

      Right-click "computer", select "properties", select "advanced" in the "System Properties" dialog box, and click "Settings" in "Start and fault recovery ", in the displayed "Start and fault recovery" dialog box, set the system start time to 30 seconds.

4.Restart the system, select "GRUB4DOS" in the startup item, and then select "Install Ubuntu" to enter the ubuntu 12.04 installation program.

5. Start installation:

    (1) After entering the system installer, open the terminal and enter

         $Sudo umount-l/isodevice

Command,To unmount the drive where the disc is located. Otherwise, the partition cannot be found on the partition page.

   (2) double-click the installation drive letter on the desktop to start installation:

      During the installation process, this document uses the manual installation method. The partition settings are as follows:

       /Root partition, at least 2 GB

      /Usr

      /Home

      /Var is used as a server. This article is not divided into this area

      /Swap size is the same as the memory size. In this article, set it to twice the memory size.

      /Boot around M, which can be larger

6. After the installation is complete, restart the computer and the startup item will be changed to the boot item for ubuntu system boot. If the boot item is still guided by win7, you can enter the win7 system and add the following content to the menu. lst file in the C: \ directory:

# This option will automatically search for the ubuntu Startup Program, but the startup speed is slow. sda8 is obtained during partitioning.
