Install Ubuntu8.10 from a Linux Hard Disk

None of them succeeded, the only result is an increasing number of packages with dependency errors. This morning, with the help of a Debian expert, KDE is started, but it has been completely changed and cannot be installed by kmail. The result can only be reinstall. Moreover, my optical drive cannot read the disk, and I am afraid to try network installation (TUD's network installation is fully automatic, as long as you choose, you cannot even set the partition yourself, all automatically ), I am worried that even if the automation is too high and my HOME is destroyed, it will be miserable. So there is only one path for hard disk installation.

Hard Disk installation requires a simple partition, as if we need an hdd for the installation of the optical drive, this partition is only used as the optical drive, temporary storage of the files on the installation disk, so the partition cannot be too large. At that time, my apt-get was completely broken and I couldn't perform any partition operations. Finally I thought of using swap partition. My swap partition is large, which is 2 GB, the installation disk is sufficient for any OS. Therefore, swapoff first, stop the swap partition, and delete the swap partition after fdisk/dev/hda, and then create a new partition in the original place of the swap, make it 83, and exit after w. Then create a file system on the new partition with mkfs. ext3 and mount the small "hard disk installation disk" to a directory, such as/tmp/install. Mount the installation. iso you downloaded to/tmp/orig/and perform the following operations:

Cd/tmp/orig
Cp-pr./*/tmp/install
Cp-pr./. disk/tmp/install // do not forget this step. Otherwise, the ubuntu guest OTP interface will be released.

Then umount/tm/install and/tmp/orig, now the "hard disk installation disk" is ready, and the important thing is how to boot through Grub, as shown below:

Casper is a sub-directory under the root directory of the Ubuntu installation disk. It contains the required kernel and ramdisk, which is equivalent to a small system started first, then the small system will guide the Ubuntu GUI to install the system.

After entering the installation interface, be careful with partitioning. You can partition a swap and keep the hard disk partition for installation as a life-saving tool. As long as your Grub is not damaged, this machine can be successfully guided through this small "Install hard disk partition" (equivalent to the hard disk version of LiveCD), so it will be very useful in the future. This partition can also be used as a dedicated hard disk partition for any non-Windows installation in the future (I guess windows can also be installed in this way), with 2-3g space. For the current system, it is just a DVD, so it is quite cost-effective.

The future partition is as follows:

Hda1 3G hard disk LiveCD partition (if you want to use a larger LiveCD such as a DVD, it is also a good idea)
Hda2 RAM_SIZE * 2 swap Partition
Hda3 Home Partition
Hda4/partition, system partition

In this way, your Linux system may be a little safer, and you can extract your data at any time even if the main system breaks down without any network help.
