Linux situation: IBM and Microsoft officially started to work-Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. The following is a detailed description. Author: Yuan Meng
We all know that today's world's software industry has two rivals: IBM and Microsoft. Over the years, they have been fighting against each other without interruption. We need to know that IBM is a typical representative of DOS to Linux, while Microsoft is a typical representative of DOS to Windows. In a keynote speech at the LinuxWorld Conference on August 6 this year, IBM's Senior Executive Bob Sutor announced an important decision: to join Canonical, Novell and RedHat on the 10th anniversary of IBM's embrace of Linux, the launch of the so-called Microsoft-free desktop program sounds weird. (Note: Bob Sutor does not mention Microsoft in his speech, and "Microsoft-free" is hard to deduct when external media reference his speech .)
In February July 28, the so-called Linux Independence Day ("Lindependence Day") was launched in Felton, California, and received responses from more than 100 cities (including Italy ). With the help of LiveCD and self-boot USB flash drives, they encouraged thousands of people in a week (more than 6,000 people in Felton city) to experience and use Linux software packages and give up Windows. In August 6, IBM simply launched the "No Microsoft" desktop program, which was incredible.
IBM worked on the "no Microsoft" desktop program and joined the main Linux manufacturer to vigorously promote IBM's Lotus Symphony office suite (in fact, this is IBM's almost open-source Lotus Symphony 1 Software Package launched in May 30 this year, for personal use free of charge), SUN does not participate, but it is supported in mind, because Lotus Symphony is basically built on OpenOffice.org (version 1.0, although there were some forks and improvements later) on the software package. IBM's Symphony office suite has a huge user base around the world, which is conducive to a wide range of Linux applications (especially in enterprise applications ). It is worth noting that both the Lotus Symphony and OpenOffice.org packages comply with the ODF international document format standards, and the electronic documents used by the two can achieve full interoperability (read and write ), in addition, Symphony and Microsoft's Office are not picky about compatibility.
IBM is openly involved in the global competition for office suites and directly called Microsoft, which promotes technical competition at the desk and breaks the dilemma of global office suites being arranged by a company. At the same time, this also adds powerful wings to the rapid development of Linux. However, the software industry in the world cannot be without Microsoft, without the participation of Microsoft. IBM hated Microsoft.
Note: On the afternoon of June August 8, I visited the Information Industry Bureau of a beautiful coastal city. They pioneered and boldly used all the localized e-government systems in China. Over the past five years, they have experienced countless hardships, constantly overcome the difficulties, and are very admired for their persistence. However, they did not consider what kinds of Office desktops the masses are using. In fact, most of the masses still use Microsoft's Windows operating platform and Office suites, it seems independent from the current world's software industry trend. I think they will surely achieve the expected results and wish them success!
