NetScreen 5XP Reset and OS upgrade

First, the NS5XP reset

Connect the serial cable to the PC with HyperTerminal connection and the port setting parameters are:

Number of bits per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity check: None
Stop bit: 1
Data flow control: Hardware

After connecting to the firewall, press the reset button on the screen to display
The Configuration Erasure Process has been initiated.
Keep holding it for about 6-7 seconds.
Waiting for 2nd confirmation.
Wait for the second confirmation, release the Reset key, press ENTER, press the reset key again to display the screen
2nd push has been confirmed
Then wait for the automatic restart after the reset is complete, the default user name, password is netscreen, the default IP is 192.168.1.1

Second, the OS upgrade

Before upgrading, it is a good idea to back up the old OS image.

1. Set up a TFTP server, the address of the TFTP server and the firewall in the same network segment, you can access each other. Assuming that the firewall's trust IP is the IP of the 192.168.1.1,TFTP server is 192.168.1.100, then put the new NetScreen OS on the TFTP server.

2. Back up the old OS image
With the command:
ns5xp-> save software from Flash to TFTP 192.168.1.100 ns5xp.4.0.0r6.0

ns5xp.4.0.0r6.0 is the name of the file to be saved, you can take it yourself.

3. Refresh the OS image to the firewall
Refreshing the OS can be either a Web interface or a CLI command line. The Web page is very simple and is no longer explained here.
Command:
Save software from tftp 192.168.1.100 ns5xp.5.0.0r9.0 to Flash

ns5xp.5.0.0r9.0 is the file name of the new OS image to be refreshed, the command displays a large string of symbols after execution, and then displays information such as whether the file downloaded from TFTP is successful or not:
