Windows NT server maintenance experience

The county sub-branch server of the People's Bank of China (Windows NT) is generally used as the domain controller of the internal LAN of the Organization, as well as an important task such as online document processing, sharing resource management, and sending and receiving emails, it is of great significance to do a good job in daily maintenance. After careful exploration and practice, I have summarized the following experiences to share with you.
Automatic System Logon
Generally, you must enter the user name and password before entering the Win NT network. To simplify the boot process, you can automatically access Win NT with the user name and password of a group at startup without entering the login parameters manually. The procedure is as follows:
1. Open the Registry Editor and expand the following key values in the Editor:

2. Click the "AutoAdminLogon" key value name on the right and enter the value "1" in the text bar of the dialog box ".
3. Select the Default-DomainName key value on the right, and enter the name of the domain name to be logged on in the text box that appears.
4. Follow the same operation method, select the "DefaultUserName" key value name on the right, and enter the name of the user logging on to the network in the "string" text box.
5. in the Registry Editor, click the "edit" menu and select the "new key value" command from the drop-down menu. Then, in the list on the right of the Registry, the Input key value is "DefaultPassword" and the key value type is "REG_SZ ".
6. Double-click the DefaultPassword key. In the displayed dialog box, enter your password.
7. Restart. The default user will automatically log on to the specified network.
If you do not need the automatic logon function in the future, you only need to change the "AutoAdminLogon" key value to "0.
Cancel system detection serial port
This approach aims to increase the startup speed of the NT System. Each time the computer starts, it will re-detect the computer's hardware, which takes some time and thus slows down the computer's startup speed. You can cancel the system detection serial port through some settings to increase the startup speed of the NT System. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Disable the "read-only" attribute of the Boot. ini file in the root directory.
2. Open the Boot. ini file in a text editor, modify the content of the [operating system] segment, and add the NoserialMice parameter to each line, as shown below:

3. Save and exit and restart.
Disable automatic operation of the CD
1. Open the Registry Editor and expand the following key values in the Editor:

2. Select the "AutoRun" key value in the list on the right of the editor.
3. Double-click "AutoRun" and enter the value "0" in the dialog box ".
4. restart the computer.
System Administrator Logon Method
County branch network administrators generally have dual roles, both network administrators and network users. For the above reason, it is recommended that each administrator have two domain user accounts. One account is placed in the local group of Administrators. This account is used when network management tasks are executed. The other account is placed in the local group of users and used in other cases.
The Administrator uses two accounts to make the network more secure. When the Administrator logs on as a common user or another person is on duty, the network features that can only be modified by the Administrator are not modified due to unexpected reasons. Even if a virus is introduced, this intruder does not have the right to have only the administrator, so it cannot modify operating system files.
Preparation of boot disk and Emergency Repair Disk
When the NT Server fails, you can use the boot disk to start the computer, and then use the Emergency Repair Disk to repair some basic system faults, such as system files, the primary sector of the partition, And the startup environment.
1. Create a boot disk
Place the NT disc, prepare three formatted 3 inch, 1.44MB blank floppy disks, enter the command prompt status, switch to the CD-ROM drive (such as F :), and then type the following command: F:> i386winnt.exe/ox, follow the prompts.
2. Create an Emergency Repair Disk
If you do not follow the system prompts to create an Emergency Repair Disk during the installation of NT, you can run the: winnt system32 disk.exe command at the system prompt after installing NT, insert a floppy disk into the drive and click "create disk Repair.
It should be noted that when the system changes significantly, such as partition or volume changes, the boot disk and Repair Disk should be updated in a timely manner.
Automatic shutdown
Because Windows NT does not support the soft shutdown function of the atx power supply, it cannot automatically turn off the power after the system is turned off. In fact, we can use the following settings to achieve automatic shutdown (the server power must be ATX ):
1. find Hal in the NT installation disc. dll. softex file, and then back up Hal under the WinntSystem32 directory. dll file, and then convert Hal. change dll to its name (such as Hal. dll. old), convert Hal. dll. softex copies it from the CD to the WinntSystem32 directory and changes it to Hal. dll.
2. in the Registry Editor, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoft Windows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon, and double-click the "PowerdownAfterShutdown" key value name on the right of the pane (if this name is not available, you can use the "add value" command in the "edit" menu to add a value. The data type is REG_SZ and the default value is 0 ), enter "1" (or another non-zero value) in the dialog box ). Restart to automatically turn off the power.
Server Backup Recovery
1. Backup
The backup content of the server is mainly the backup of NT operating system and Notes data. Qualified county sub-branches can have a dedicated backup machine and update relevant system information at any time. If there is no condition, any NT Workstation in the LAN can be used as a backup. However, the account information in Notes and the email database of various users are dynamically changing. Therefore, you must regularly and irregularly back up the entire directory of Notes, preferably on another computer, minimize possible losses.
2. Restore or upgrade
If a problem occurs on the server, follow these steps:
1) install the NT operating system and configure the network. If a backup machine exists, you can directly change the network configuration to the server configuration.
2) install Notes Domino. The installation of the software is relatively simple. Simply run the installation program and select the server for installation as prompted (note: the installation content must be the same as that of the original server ).
3) restore the configuration. Lotus Notes is not started immediately after Domino is installed. Directly copy all the files in the subdirectory of the original backup Notes (Domino installation directory) to the same directory of the new server. At the same time, copy the original server c: notes in the subdirectory of winnt (Windows NT installation directory. copy the INI file to the same directory of the new server, start the Notes server, update the address book and other related information, and the system is restored.
