In the future, Oracle will offer three paid versions of MySQL each year for $2,000, $5,000, and $10,000. The previous "Basic" version is no longer available. For many users, it costs more than three times. These paid editions provide different software combinations instead of services of different levels. The Free "classic" version only provides a built-in database with the MyISAM backend. Transaction-type InnoDB engines are available in standard, enterprise, and operation-level versions; cluster NDB engines are only available in operation-level versions.
Its management tools share the same situation. Enterprise Monitoring and backup are unavailable in the premium version and standard version. The above price only applies to a server with less than 4 CPUs. MySQL website statement said that customers who need to support 5 CPU or more CPU servers directly contact Oracle. According to the global price list of Oracle MySQL, the price of MySQL on five or more CPU servers is twice that of the operating version. Oracle did not comment on the new price and product policy.
Skysql, a company established by former MySQL employees, seized the opportunity to recruit customers from Oracle through an open letter. In the letter, they provide the same product level as the previous Sun: Basic edition, Silver Edition, platinum edition and final edition, but services and software are different. The company did not explicitly disclose its price, but it is said to be "30% to 40% lower than oracle ".
In a talk, Christian trieb, general agent of Oracle's German user group, said, "We recommend that you compare the prices and performance of all the options provided. As shown in the market today, there is fully room for negotiation."
