How can I use a USB flash drive in Linux? -- Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. For details, refer to the following section. USB device usage in linux

Environment: Linux FC4 is installed on a virtual machine with the kernel 2.6.17-1.2142.
You have added a USB interface to the VM and set it to "... the USB device automatically connects to the VM ". After the USB flash drive is inserted

The USB icon is displayed. However, fdisk-l cannot display the USB flash disk. At the same time, the USB flash disk is not displayed when you use dmesg to view

. Dmesg displays the following information:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
...
Usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
Scsi1: SCSI emultion for USB Mass Storage devices
Usb-storage: device found at 2
Usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass storage suppor registered.
Usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
Usb-storage: device scan complete
...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I searched for the information on the Internet and made the following attempts:
Do not insert a usb flash drive. Check whether usb-storage exists in/sbin/lsmod. If no, perform the following operations:
1), cd/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/usb
2). for v in *. o storage/*. o; do/sbin/insmod $ v; done
The following message is displayed:
Insmod: can't read '*. o': No such file or directory
Insmod: can't read 'Storage/*. o': No such file or diecloud

Supplement: no usb interface device is added when the linux system is installed. Is to try how to use the USB flash drive, only through the Virtual

Machine to add a USB interface device. I wonder if it will be related to this?
I have tried the same problem in linux with pure characters and installed xwindows graphical interface...

What is going on? Thank you for your advice !!!
