According to a survey by foreign analysts, Ubuntu Linux has become one of the important server platforms.

If a file server is missing from your network, a core component is missing for storing and backing up important files on the network. You can choose to build your file Server from Ubuntu Linux to Windows Server in a free or paid way between different systems.

The following describes how to use a free method to build your file server. All you need to do is prepare an existing old computer.

Download Ubuntu

First, find the download page and click the server version. After downloading the latest software version, you can burn the ISO file to CD. Then, you can start the server from the CD. It takes about 20 minutes to install the entire operating system.

After the installation is complete, the operating system automatically starts to the command line prompt. At this time, you log on to your name and press ENTER to add your password. Then, enter the "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" command to unlock the GUI of the Ubuntu system.

The server version of Ubuntu usually contains only one command line interface. After about 20 minutes, you can restart the machine and use the mouse to operate your desktop.

Change IP settings

If you are currently connected to a DHCP router, Ubuntu will not have any problems with the network link. When you are about to start providing file services, you may want to manually configure IP addresses to make it easier for the client to recover.

Then, modify system access, parameter settings, and network configuration. Click the IPv4 settings tab and change it to manual settings. Click Add IP address and select "OK ".

Finally, set your vro, reserve a static address, and dynamically send the DHCP settings to other clients, or manually set the IP address for the entire network.

Add User

Add new users to systems, managers, users, and groups. Click the unlock key, enter your password, and then click Verify. Click Add User to add a new network login name and password. In this way, the users who need to access the server are added again.

If they do not need to access the server, the configured configuration file does not need the access permission, as long as it becomes a desktop user. Click Manage Group to add all users who need to access the server to a group.

Shared File

Next, select the main folders to be shared and set them to local or shared properties. Continue to open the folder at the next layer, activate the shared folder, and click Create share.

If you want to grant the folder access permissions to the users of the entire group, you only need to open the permission table and set the permissions for opening, closing, writing, and deleting files for the corresponding group.

Through the above steps, a free file server is created using the Ubuntu system.
