The colors are mixed in red, green, and blue.

Color values

The color is defined by a hexadecimal symbol, which consists of red, green, and blue values (RGB).

The minimum value for each color is 0 (16 binary: #00). The maximum value is 255 (16 binary: #FF).

This table gives the exact effect of mixing three colors:

Color name

Most browsers support a collection of color names.

Tip: Only 16 color names are supported by the HTML4.0 standard. They are: Aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, white, yellow.

If you need to use a different color, you need to use a hexadecimal color value.

Web-Safe color

Several years ago, when most computers supported only 256 colors, a series of 216 web-safe colors were recommended as web standards. The reason for this is that the Microsoft and Mac operating systems use 40 different fixed system colors (approximately 20 for each of the two sides).

We're not sure how much this is going to be, because more and more computers have the ability to handle millions of different colors, but it's up to you to choose.

216 Cross-platform color

Initially, the 216 cross-platform web-safe color was used to ensure that all computers were able to display all colors correctly when the computer was using a 256-color palette.
