According to foreign media reports, as we all know, at present, Microsoft Windows operating systems account for more than 90% of the global market share, while Linux's market share is less than 1%. Even so, Linux still has many characteristics that are worth learning from in the Windows operating system.
Today, I will list the top 10 desktop features of Linux, as shown below:
#1. Compiz
Compiz is an OpenGL-based hybrid window manager that provides 3D desktop effects similar to Vista and Mac OS in a Linux Desktop System. Compiz has long been known for its outstanding stability. On my own, the Compiz manager in Linux is superior to the Aero desktop window management tool in Windows.
#2. Screenlets
Screenlets is similar to the Dashboard desktop toolbar in Apple Mac OS X. It is a very good software in the Ubuntu operating system released in Linux and can bring a variety of small software to users' desktops, for example, instant stickers, clocks, weather forecasts, calendars, etc.
#3. Emerald
Emerald is a very artistic Linux topic. It works with the Compiz window hybrid manager to bring users a Cool 3D desktop effect.
#4. CairoIf
If you like Mac OS X's dock function, you will certainly like Linux's CairoIf function. CairoIf can contain a large number of small programs, and the interface is clean and runs smoothly.
#5. Top Shelf
Top Shelf is a very good GNOME panel tool that allows users to quickly access certain specified files.
#6. Tomboy Notes
Tomboy Notes is a simple note applet that is included in the GNOME panel, allowing users to instantly access all the note content through directories.
#7. KDE Plasmoids
KDE Plasmoids is a tool in KDE Desktop. My favorite Plasmoids include Twitter Weibo, Superkaramba, and file monitor.
#8. GNOME Do
GNOME Do can automatically match the content you type to quickly open existing programs, files, bookmarks, and so on in the system.
At the same time, GNOME Do also has many plug-ins that allow users to send emails, files, IMs, Twitter and Facebook updates.
#9. Multi-user
Users can set up multiple accounts in Windows 7, but this is not a real multi-user.
By default, Windows 7 cannot log on to multiple users at the same time. If you want to perform multi-user sessions in Windows, you must download a third-party tool. However, in Linux, users can enable Multi-user desktops by default using the Multi-user function.
#10. Cron
With Cron, you can easily execute tasks. In Windows, you can use third-party software to automatically execute tasks without the flexibility of Cron.
A scheduled task is to execute the scheduled job at the agreed time. In Linux, we often use the crond server to do this. The cron server can perform specific tasks according to the time specified in the configuration file. For example, we can specify at every morning in the configuration file to restart the httpd server. This is a scheduled task.
In Linux, scheduled tasks are generally undertaken by cron. We can set cron to automatically start upon startup. After cron is started, it reads all its configuration files (global configuration file/etc/crontab and the scheduled task configuration file for each user ), then, cron calls the job on time based on the command and execution time.
