In the operating system world, Linux has a 1% market share for ten years. However, with this 1% market share, the fierce competition in the Linux World has continued for many years. For a while, Ubuntu has become a de facto leader in Linux development and a Linux release with the most users. This fact has changed since Ubuntu 10.10 was released. Many changes in this version make old users dislike it, so many users use the Linux Mint release version.

Linux Mint is catching up with the Debina-based release version, which gives up Ubuntu and users who are wandering. According to statistics, Linux Mint users have exceeded Ubuntu users for two consecutive months.

So what has happened in the past two months?

Everyone has a deep understanding of the issues that Ubuntu users should unite, but it is very difficult to complete the process of unity. Ubuntu has many users who do not get used to or are unwilling to waste time customizing Linux. However, I found that most of my operations and usage have been added. As an operating system, I think it should exist in the invisible thing, but now, I actually feel that it exists and controls my use everywhere, these are all from my own experience on the Unity interface. When the freshness is over, it will affect my use everywhere. Even on a larger display, even on a more crowded desktop, the menu on the left makes me feel crowded.

However, despite this, many users can still use the Gnome shell as their operation interface, but it is a problem for new users to change it. At first, I thought this was my personal problem, but when I talked to some Linux-loving friends around me about this problem, they share the same feelings with me, which surprised me from the beginning and relieved me later.

At this time, the Canonical Company (Ubuntu is a project of this company) has gradually shifted its focus to tablets and mobile devices. They published a large amount of information about tablets and mobile devices. At this time, I realized that all of these made me feel inappropriate and seemed to be more appropriate on the touch device. From a commercial point of view, this is a successful operation, from a computer to a tablet to a mobile device, a unified interface, a unified operating habits, and a unified system. However, it misleads my understanding of Ubuntu. As a computer user, I am very disappointed with Ubuntu's practice.

Currently, Linux Mint has swept Linux users and has become the first Linux release with the highest usage rate. It runs the Gnome 2 desktop system (Linux Mint 12 runs Gnome 3 and is perfectly compatible with Gnome 2). The various operations are very similar to the previous Ubuntu, And you can customize the appearance, choose the methods you like to run it. It is more suitable for desktop operating systems.

This is what most Linux users want to use.

I expect Linux Mint to become another new system that surpasses Ubuntu.
