Mark Shuttleworth (head of Ubuntu parent company) announced on reddit.com that Ubuntu Edge will be supported for six years.
We want to support the edge with updates to 14.04 LTS and then through the life of 14.04 LTS, which wocould be a total of 6 years.
Mark Shuttleworth
Mark Shuttleworth said: "the Ubuntu Edge of Canonical is scheduled to be released in December May 2014, while the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be released in December April 2014. Therefore, Canonical wants Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to support Ubuntu Edge, therefore, Ubuntu Edge will have the same long-term support period as LTS. If Ubuntu Edge is final after funding ."
You may think that this information was released when IndieGoGo was funded. In fact, this information was first disclosed on Reddit. Mark Shuttleworth also reminds everyone that the six-year support period refers to six years of software support rather than hardware warranty.
