You don't have the GD Library installed. This is class requires the GD library to function properly. Visit http://us2.php.net/manual/en/ref.image.php for more information

According to the web search, I understand that PHP needs to support GB library for image generation,
So the PHP re-compile, in the Configure add the WITH-GD, error
Configure:error:libpng. (A|SO) not found

Use of the with-png-dir=/usr/lib, still wrong.
After using the Yum install Pnglib, then recompile PHP, or error.
Finally try to use Yum install Pnglib-devel, and then recompile PHP, normal

It turns out PHP is using pnglib-devel instead of pnglib.
