According to foreign media reports, Ubuntu is currently the most successful Linux Desktop release operating system, and it has many supporters.
However, as the saying goes, "No one is perfect". What's more, it is a product created by people? Although the latest Ubuntu operating system Ubuntu 10.04 contains many improvements, there are still many shortcomings.
Recently, TechRepublic summarized the 10 major defects of the latest Ubuntu 10.04 operating system, as follows:
1. New Theme
When I was using the Ubuntu 10.04 operating system, I was most uncomfortable with the new theme contained in Ubuntu 10.04.
In my opinion, the new theme in Ubuntu 10.04 seems to have regressed Ubuntu for several years. In short, the default theme in Ubuntu 10.04 is not a good choice. I believe that users who have installed Ubuntu 10.04 will feel uncomfortable with the new default theme.
Now, we only have to pin our hopes on Gnome 3.0.
2. Lack of Samba
Ubuntu 10.04 does not include Samba by default. Although users can install Samba easily from the Ubuntu Software Center, I believe that the biggest selling point of Ubuntu 10.04 and GNOME 2.3 is that file sharing is easy, lack of Samba seems to give people a sense of mutual deviation.
Ubuntu developers claim that they only need to right-click the folder and then share files with other Linux or Windows users over the network. However, the premise is that Samba must be installed in the Ubuntu operating system in advance, but why not use Samba as the default software for Ubuntu 10.04?
The reason is that Ubuntu developers may want to reduce the number of default applications as much as possible, so as to increase the startup time of Ubuntu 10.04. However, I believe that the convenience of file sharing as the cost of improving the startup time is not worth it.
3. No Gimp
Some Ubuntu users may think that Gimp is not included in Ubuntu 10.04 ?! But this is true.
For a long time, Gimp is a standard configuration for Linux graphics users. Gimp is included in previous versions of Linux operating systems. In fact, it is not easy to find a powerful and easy-to-use Gimp product.
Like Samba, you can download Gimp from the Ubuntu Software Center for installation and use. However, a major selling point of Linux is that you can start working after installing it, but this is not the case now. After installing the Ubuntu 10.04 operating system, you must manually download the required software. I strongly recommend that you build Gimp in the next version of Ubuntu.
4. New init system
I have never liked to enter/etc/init. d/networking restart or other commands in init. d. Now, you do not need to enter such a command. Instead, you need to enter a command such as service network restart. I admit that this is an improvement.
After the new init system is adopted, the system startup time has been improved. However, for some Linux users, it may be a bit difficult to use. They are used to typing/etc/init. commands such as d/networking restart do not need to remember anything, but now they must forget the past and adapt to new rules.
5. Ubuntu music store does not have PayPal)
In previous versions of Ubuntu music stores, PayPal is supported. However, due to a problem in the system, PayPal was removed. Since then, PayPal support has never been seen in the Ubuntu music store.
Because many users are not used to using credit cards directly for online shopping, the number of music buyers in the Ubuntu music store has declined.
Two weeks ago, a developer told me privately that PayPal would return, but still could not see it until now. I thought it would not continue to use the Ubuntu music store until it came back.
