If you have been using Linux for a while, you may have heard of OSD Lyrics. It is a small program that displays desktop lyrics. You can use it with some music players, such as Rhythmbox, Banshee, and Clementine.

Install OSD Lyrics on Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux mint 17

Two years ago, its official OSD Lyrics warehouse was still actively maintained, but its development has stopped. Although this PPA is unavailable, you can download the OSD Lyrics installation package over the Internet. Although these installation execution files were initially designed for Ubuntu 12.02, they also work well on Ubuntu 14.04. Let's take a look at how to install OSD Lyrics on Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux mint 17.

Go to the download page to download OSDLyrics, and download the corresponding. deb file based on whether you use 32-bit or 64-bit ubuntu. You will find these files at the top of the page.

After the download is complete, double-click it to install it by using the Ubuntu Software Center. Alternatively, you can use Gdebi to quickly install the. deb installation package (see http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2013-11/92741.htm ).

I installed it using the command line:

Sudo apt-get install libmp d1

Sudo dpkg-I osdlyrics_0.4.3-1 ~ Precisepolici386.deb

How to Use OSD Lyrics to display Lyrics on Ububtu and linux mnit

After the installation is complete, you can run OSD Lyrics from Unity Dash:

During the first running, OSD Lyrics will detect the players supported by it in your system. You can set a default player, which will be automatically started when you run OSD Lyrics.

One thing worth noting is that, unlike software such as Shazam, OSD Lyrics does not use audio to search for Lyrics, but uses information such as names, albums, and artists to associate music files. So you have to ensure that your music file is properly sourced, or you have to keep the information of your music file correct and updated.

If the OSD Lyrics identifies a music file, it will display the Lyrics on the desktop in the karaoke format: (Translator's note: OSD Lyrics can automatically download the Lyrics online at the and Xiami Lyrics sites, this is a good news for Chinese users)

OSD Lyrics has a large number of options, you can change the font of the Lyrics, text size, and so on.

What do you think of OSD Lyrics? Do you still use other lyrics plug-ins? You are welcome to share with us.
