As a Linux user who has been using Linux for many years, I have used almost all major Linux distributions such as Red Hat, Mandrake, Debian, Gentoo, Lindows, Hongqi, and chinansoft. Each release has its own merits, but SuSE stays on my machine for the longest time. There are many reasons for this: first, I do not like to use a Linux operating system for a long time; secondly, I prefer SuSE to embellish the interface with green icons, which makes people feel very fresh, especially when work fatigue occurs, SuSE can be used to adjust the mood, and The SuSE interface is very friendly.
　　
If I use one sentence to comment on the various releases, I personally think Red Hat is a little cool, but not very friendly; Debian is rock-solid, but unfriendly; manrake is very gorgeous, but it is a bit amateur; Gentoo has excellent performance, but it is mainly for hardcore users; Lindows is very easy to use, but there are too few software, and it cannot be obtained for free; Hongqi and zhongsoft are not well known in China, and its own characteristics are not obvious. In comparison, SuSE also has some shortcomings, but I think it has many advantages of each release, both in terms of stability, ease of use and the number of software.
　　
SuSE's cultural issues
　　
In fact, SuSE has always been the largest Linux release in Europe. After version 8.1, SuSE began to focus on users outside Europe and began to provide versions in languages from Asia and other countries. Maybe the pace of its globalization is too late. I think SuSE still needs to be improved, at least in terms of culture. Of course, with Novell and IBM's involvement, I believe SuSE will be even better.
　　
The Beautification I mentioned here is to make SuSE's Chinese display more beautiful and beautiful. When installing SuSE 9.0, we will find that although the installation is in simplified Chinese, the KDE environment is still in English after the installation is complete. See. Although some SuSE-specific software such as YaST has become a Chinese interface, it is also "terrible", as shown in figure 2. Originally, you only need to change the "country/region language" through the KDE control center, but the corresponding Chinese package is not installed in SuSE by default. In fact, this problem already exists in previous versions. What I did not think was that SuSE 9.0 was not corrected. I remember that when I first encountered this problem, I went through KDE directly. For old Linux users, this method is actually not difficult, that is, to download a Chinese software package from kde.org, and then install it. But next I found that the corresponding software package already exists in the release version, but SuSE does not automatically install it, and there is no obvious prompt.
　　
In view of the shortcomings of SuSE in Chinese display, I will introduce the three steps of SuSE 9.0 beautification based on my own experience. The three-step process does not mean how complicated the process is (in fact, the process is very simple, otherwise we have no reason to choose SuSE). Instead, we choose different methods for different users' needs.
　　
Step 1
　　
For some Linux users, they do not care whether KDE is Chinese or English, or whether the Chinese is beautifully displayed. For these users, you only need to solve the confusion and incomplete problem in the Chinese text shown in Figure 2. You only need to slightly modify the SuSE settings, instead of installing any other software packages.
　　
The reason why Chinese characters are displayed in disorder is that the default font used by the system cannot correctly display Chinese characters. The solution is to change the default font so that it can correctly display the Chinese font. We can change the font in the control center.
　　
The specific method is: Main Menu → Control Center → appearance and topic → font, then click the "adjust all fonts" button in the lower right corner of the page, and change it to ar pi. kaitiM GB, which is a Chinese font that comes with SuSE 9.0. This method applies to users who only care about the availability of the system, not the interface. Although the Chinese characters of the Configuration tool in SuSE can be displayed normally, the entire KDE environment is still in English.
　　
Step 2
　　
For most users, we still hope to have a pure Chinese environment. We can achieve the localization of the KDE environment by installing the Chinese software package that comes with SuSE.
　　
The specific method is: Main Menu → system → YaST → software → install and remove software. Select "Software Package group" from the drop-down list at the top of the interface, and then click "System", "GUI", and "KDE" in the box below it ". After the software package is installed, go to the control center and change the language to Chinese.

This method applies to users who require a Chinese environment but do not use Linux for office. As can be seen from figure 3, the Chinese font display is blurred, making people feel more amateur.
　　
Step 3
　　
For some users, using Linux is not only a hobby, but also a learning function. It is mainly used for work. In my office, there are both Linux machines and Windows machines. I often use Linux. Personally, Windows must be used when I play games. For example, I recently played "Death Squad 3" and "Warcraft 3", which cannot be used in Linux. In addition, I can use Linux to complete all the work. In this sense, I think it is not just about GNOME and KDE that Linux occupies Microsoft's territory on the desktop, more importantly, it is the follow-up of many ISVs (independent software developers.
　　
In my daily work, I often need to make some documents, and the default font in SuSE obviously cannot meet my requirements. By default, SuSE only has two simplified Chinese fonts installed. Therefore, I want to add some fonts to SuSE. There are two methods: one is to use the online download function added in SuSE 9.0, and the other is to use the font of Windows or other third parties.
　　
1. Use the online download function to add a font
　　
In SuSE 9.0, some Microsoft fonts can be downloaded through its online update feature (this is a newly added feature in the new version ). According to SuSE, the reason why these fonts are not included with the release version is to consider licensing issues. Although these fonts are not directly attached, SuSE provides a very convenient way to obtain these fonts.

Select "YOU patch" in the list in the upper-left corner ". In the box below it, there is a name "Download Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts", select the check box in front of it, and then click "accept" to start the Download. After the download is complete, follow the prompts to install it. This method is simple, but the number of fonts is too small. In Windows, the default Simsun Font does not exist, so it still cannot meet the needs of creating rich file formats.
　　
2. Import the TTF font in Windows
　　
To use a large number of available TTF fonts, the simplest way is to directly import these fonts into SuSE. In SuSE 9.0, it provides a very simple method to import TTF fonts.
　　
First, copy all the files in the Fonts directory in Windows to any directory in SuSE. Here, I copied them to the/home/yiligui/fonts directory, and then simsun & Nsimsun. the extension of the ttc file is changed. ttf, and then start the SuSE font installer.

After the import is complete, change the default font of the system to SimSun as described above. Now let's take a look at the Chinese display in the control center and menu, which is no different from that in Windows.
　　
So far, the number and display level of Chinese characters in my SuSE system are no different from those in Windows XP. It is very beautiful and professional.
