When we install VMware Workstation, on the host (physical computer) will be more than two network cards, VMNet1, VMNet8, in the virtual machine settings will be more than one configuration VMNet0.

• VMNet1

The use of the Host-only link mode, that is, the virtual machine can only be composed of internal communication with the host, unable to access the external network.

• VMNet0

Mode:

With the bridging mode, the VM is installed and the virtual machine is created by default in that mode.

Scene:

This mode is available if you just need a virtual machine that can interoperate with the host and can access the extranet.

Describe:

You do not need to adjust the network after installing the virtual machine system, and the DHCP server included in the physical network will automatically recognize the virtual machine and assign it an IP address;

If you do not have a route, you can manually assign it to the system yourself, and the principle is to communicate with the host on the same network segment and point to the same gateway.

• VMNet8

Mode:

NAT Network mode

Scene:

Install multiple virtual machines in the host, and host a small LAN, host, virtual machines can communicate with each other, virtual machines can also access the extranet, such as the establishment of Hadoop cluster, distributed services

Setup steps:

Step1

View the IP network segment of Vmnet 8, see the second picture of STEP1

Network Segment 192.168.204.0

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.204.2

After configuring the virtual machine to start, I am using cent OS 6.4 system (LINUX), configure the network using the configuration file, the following two graphs are the static IP and the gateway's Collocation method. (Windows configure your network)

If you do not need to lock the static IP (such as Hadoop does not lock the IP is very troublesome), then skip Step3.

Because of NAT mode, virtual DHCP servers with VM NET8 Virtual switches automatically assign network addresses, and can be set if you need to view or set up STEP1 to view network information.

Next we briefly introduce the principle of VM Net 8, after VMware installation, the host will install VM NET8 network card, while virtual out a set of VM Net 8 used virtual route (including switch and virtual DHCP server)

Note:

1. If you are really using a virtual machine as a server, build a system with VM server, it is necessary to use VM Net0, directly connected to the physical network, and configure the IP address of the static IP lock virtual machine server

2. VM Net 8 is suitable for building more than one virtual machine on the local or server, and the component LAN is used.

3. After setting Vmnet 8, the virtual machine and the host, the external network and other virtual machines can communicate with each other, but the host cannot ping the gateway, and there is no further study of the principle of VM communication, which is fully satisfied with the use.
