As we all know, Canonical has been trying to launch its own Ubuntu System & ldquo; into the & rdquo; smartphone market. As we all know, Canonical has been trying to "break into" the smartphone market through its own Ubuntu system, but the plan will be temporarily stranded because it did not meet its funding objectives in 2013. Since then, the company has changed its strategy, focused on improving its own system, and said it will "curve" to achieve its goal by working with other hardware vendors, instead of directly producing hardware.
Recently, Canonical should announce that it is intended to produce hardware manufacturers that use Ubuntu mobile phones. At the MWC 2014 world mobile conference, the CEO of Canonical officially confirmed that the first smart phone with Ubuntu system will be officially launched this fall.
The first hardware vendors that Canonical cooperated with were meizu from China and BQ from Europe. As early as last week, the two companies announced the launch of Ubuntu system mobile phones and revealed more details about the cooperation at this MWC conference. Mark Shuttleworth, founder and CEO of Ubuntu, said that although mobile phones carrying Ubuntu systems will have surprising performance, some aspects remain relatively weak.
Shuttleworth said: "Our first-generation mobile phones will definitely surprise you in some fields. However, compared with Android and iOS platforms. But when consumers get their hands, they will surely be amazed at the excellent app catalog of this mobile phone and the improvement in some fields ."
First, the weakest link of the Ubuntu system mobile phone should be the application. Shuttleworth himself realized this: "Although there are currently no 0.65 million applications in our app marketplace, you do not have to worry about using the app when we first launched the Ubuntu mobile phone. ". However, he said that when mobile phones are listed in the Ubuntu system, they do not care too much about the number of applications, but are working hard on the mobile phones and the system itself, make users feel that this is a great product. Although meizu and BQ, as the first Canonical partners, are not comparable to world giants such as Samsung and LG, however, he also said that Canonical is also negotiating with some world-renowned manufacturers. This shows that the Ubuntu system is very promising in the future, and more partners will join in the future.
When asked why Ubuntu will cooperate with meizu and BQ in China, Shuttleworth replied: "Our partners have many well-known vendors. However, when we launched Ubuntu mobile phones, these large mobile phone manufacturers were only a small part of the future development of the ecosystem. Therefore, the reason for our cooperation with the two mobile phone manufacturers is that the original intention of both parties is the same and they share a common pursuit; on the other hand, both companies can find the right time to launch the right devices within the right time. The two companies finally attracted us to work closely together because they both have a keen perspective on the mobile phone market and are not afraid of difficulties, obstacles, and persistent pursuit of devices, in the future market, we will be able to launch appropriate deployment for appropriate groups of people in the appropriate time."
In addition, Shuttleworth did not disclose the price of the first Ubuntu mobile phone. Talking about user experience, he said, Ubuntu will look more beautiful than Android, and I believe it will stand out in the highly competitive mobile phone market in the future.
