The CPU usage of Firefox3beta5 hard disk in Linux

On Linux, the CPU usage of Firefox3beta5's hard disk is greatly increased-Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. For more information, see the following. It may be a problem with Firefox 3 beta 5, or related to the settings of each user. It is not a common phenomenon. The specific performance is that after Firefox 3 is started on Linux, the system will read and write the hard disk violently and the CPU usage will be extremely high. Firefox will hardly respond; this phenomenon will last for a few minutes. After that, it will be okay, and then start again.

Today, I happened to Google a post on Ubuntuforum, where I talked about a method. After testing, I solved this problem on my machine. The method is to delete urlclassifier *. sqlite under the profile directory. There are three such files in my directory, delete them, and start Fx3b5 again. The problem no longer occurs, and a file like this is generated at the same time. It seems to be a problem.

If you have the same problem, try it. The Profile directory is in ~ /. Mozilla/firefox/profile name.

To know which program is reading and writing the hard disk, you can:

/Etc/init. d/sysklogd stop
Echo 1>/proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode
Echo 1>/proc/sys/vm/block_dump
Dmesg

It is said that this file is used to store the library of harmful or fake site URLs provided by Firefox. When a user accesses a URL, fx will determine whether the site is harmful based on it. Some problems may occur in the program, resulting in hard disk reading and high CPU usage. Sqlite is not mentioned as follows. There are related bugs on Mozilla. In addition, this file will continue to grow. After being deleted, it will be generated more than 9 KB. It will grow to more than 1 MB in a short time, and the maximum size will be more than 20 MB, which is intolerable.

So it seems that the thorough method is: On the Edit-Preference-Security option page, find the tell me... attack site. There are two items, remove them, and let them know. Then, delete the urlclassifier3.sqlite file in the Profile directory. Then start Firefox. This is also a kind of bad thing.

The efficiency of reading and writing Sqlite databases in Firefox seems to be too low. The new Bookmark Management, called Place, also seems to use it. If there are 300 bookmarks for operation, it can be slowed down, if you cut and paste 1000 bookmarks at the same time, the machine is basically the same as dead, so do not import thousands of bookmarks on delicious to the local Firefox.
