The founder of Ubuntu criticized Novell as saying that Microsoft has split open source

Shuttleworth also accused Microsoft of using powerful financial techniques to trick manufacturers into signing patent-related treaties with it, so as to stand on a line with it to undermine open-source communities. "Obviously, what Microsoft is doing at this stage is disrupting the landscape. For those vendors that refuse to sign the agreement with them, Microsoft will not bother with it ."

"I don't think these vendors will have good results," he said. "Basically, it is the spirit of open source that inspires the best developers. Developers have abandoned Novell. When Novell and Microsoft cooperate, they turn to Google, Oracle, or other open-source developers. This is unfortunate for Novell, but it is expected that they will eventually lose the open-source understanding ."

So far, a Microsoft spokesman has declined to comment on Shuttleworth's remarks and has not heard any voice from Novell.
