The Telnet protocol is a member of the TCP/IP protocol family,is the standard protocol and main way of Internet remote Login service.
You can telnet to Ubuntu, but Ubuntu 10.10 does not have Telnet installed by default, requires an online installation, and is manually configured.
1:sudo Apt-get Install openbsd-inetd
2:sudo Apt-get Install telnetd
3:sudo gedit/etc/inetd.conf
Add to:
Telnet Stream TCP nowait root/usr/sbin/tcpd/usr/sbin/in.telnetd
If it already exists, do not add it.
4:sudo/etc/init.d/openbsd-inetd restart
Appear:
* Restarting Internet superserver inetd [OK]
5:netstat-a | grep telnet
Appear:
TCP 0 0 *:telnet *:* LISTEN
Now that Telnet has been successfully configured, there are several ways to log in to Ubuntu via Telnet.
1. Operate at the Windows command prompt.
To run->cmd, open a Command Prompt window and enter:
Telnet *.*.*.*
Then enter the user name, password.
Note: *.*.*.* represents the IP address of Ubuntu.
You can enter the logout or exit command to exit the login.
2. Enter the command under Linux to operate.

3. Log in using related tools such as SECURECRT under Windows.
