The July 25 China Open Source informatization annual meeting will be held at the Kyoto shinyuan hotel in Beijing on September 18, 2007. This is another event in the open source industry in China. "Open Source" ("OpenSource"), we have been talking about it for nearly a decade, but we still cannot really mention it on the desktop. The so-called "open-source software" is often interpreted as "open-source software". Therefore, it is assumed that "open-source software can be used, modified, customized, and re-released independently ", there are many advantages. Let's ask, is the actual situation true? Is there any legal risk in doing so? This is an unavoidable issue. The July 25 China Open Source informatization annual meeting will be held at the Kyoto Garden Hotel in Beijing on September 11, 2007. This is also a grand event in the open source industry in China.

"Open Source" ("Open Source"), we have been talking about it for nearly a decade, but we still cannot really mention it on the desktop. The so-called "open-source software" is often interpreted as "open-source software". Therefore, it is assumed that "open-source software can be used, modified, customized, and re-released independently ", there are many advantages. Let's ask, is the actual situation true? Is there any legal risk in doing so? This is an unavoidable problem.

Is there any legal risk of using open-source software? Is it free to use the open source code? We can't say that the source code is open to open source software, and there will be no "private" intellectual property rights issues. How can this problem be solved? It seems that you can use it freely without using it. In fact, this is not true. In the past, we used to "circle" here, delaying the good time.

This year, in June 29, a software authorization letter (GPL v3) was officially issued. This software authorization letter is a global legal instrument. In this case, the software developer (the natural owner of the software, having the full right to dispose of the software) solemnly announces: "This software is committed to complying with GPL rules" (that is, using the aforementioned "Software authorization letter "). What does this mean? This is a "software disposal" method that software developers exercise based on the "private disposal right" of their software works. What are the essential characteristics of the software that complies with the general public authorization letter (GPL v3? This means that software publishers must bear all relevant legal risks and ensure that their users (especially enterprise users) are not "legally accused ". Is this possible? It is entirely possible. Simply put, any software that complies with the GPL authorization letter is "stacked" at the first level, as long as it can ensure that its "root" (such as the C language function library) has no legal risks. As a matter of fact, it is now such a step-by-step approach to "strictly build" this "GPL software library ". From then on, a year later, this kind of "GPL software library" can be gradually improved, full, and finally strengthened. At that time, thousands of enterprises around the world were relieved to use the GPL software.

In particular, according to GPL rules, all software in the "GPL software library" is called "Free Software" (meaning "free use ). Of course, the source code of free software must be fully open. However, it is not difficult to see that the so-called "Open Source Software" does not necessarily mean that it must be "free software ". In fact, "open-source software" is a "hodgedge", where everything is pushed in, and even "Private software" (such as "Shared Software. The use of "open-source software" is not good. I don't know which day you will "go to court". You must be very careful.

Ubuntu is a "Free Software Package ". in May October this year, there will also be a version called "Gubuntu" ("pure free software package", and the letter "G" in its header means GPL rules) to be released. Currently, the latest version of Ubuntu is Ubuntu 7.04 (released in April ). Ubuntu 7.04 is based on the most advanced Linux kernel (Linux 2.6.20). It has an excellent "software packaging" mechanism and can be upgraded to the latest "sub-Software Package" stable version at any time, is an easy task. Facts have proved that it is extremely convenient to construct an Information Application for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Based on Ubuntu 7.04, especially the so-called "LAMP" Architecture (the most common Web Service website architecture.

The Ubuntu software package has been proven by the Ubuntu lab for more than two years. In particular, the Ubuntu server version runs very stably and never suffers from "crashes" or virus infection. In May 24 this year, Dell, the world-renowned PC manufacturer, officially sold Ubuntu PCs. In August July 10, Dell CEO Michael Dell said at a meeting in New York that "Linux is coming to SMB" ("Linux is coming to small and medium enterprises (SMB)"), especially in Europe. Ubuntu PC, generally 50 to 50 cheaper than Vista computers ~ $100 (the same hardware configuration) indicates that the Ubuntu PC is welcomed by many customers in the world. Dell decided to expand the production line and sales scope of Ubuntu PC. This is undoubtedly a good sign.

Based on Ubuntu, it is the right way to engage in the informatization of small and medium-sized enterprises. Free Software is not a free software, not a stray pet that nobody cares about. Free Software is a valuable software asset and a result of the smart creation of millions of people ). Let us all treat free software well and give full play to its role.
