Ubuntu7.10Gutsy test report-general Linux technology-Linux technology and application information. For details, refer to the following section. Officially Released in Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy! This article mentions the possible problems with this configuration. Now we can report the test results:

1. Indeed, on this ATI + AMD platform, the Live CD of Ubuntu 7.10 also encountered a problem that could not enter the desktop. Fortunately, it was not serious to the black screen. The displayed dialog box "the display server has been shut down about 6 times in The last 90 seconds. it is likely that something bad is going on. waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display: 0. ", failed to start Live CD in safe mode and failed to enter the desktop. Select the OEM installation result. That is to say, you cannot enter the Live CD and cannot install it. This Live CD has no character interface Installer. It seems that you have to download the Alternate install CD image file to burn and install it, the first problem cannot be solved. The problems mentioned later in the previous article must be tested and verified after installation.

2 ,......

PS: the installation of OpenSuse 10.3 On this desktop is very smooth. Although the X1250 video card is not completely driven, OpenSuse 10.3 can be installed on Live CD, this requires a lot of learning from Ubuntu.

PS: I have to say that the Suse Slash is really pretty, even the boot menu is so beautiful, that font Ah, very comfortable!

After downloading the 7.10 Gutsy Alternate image file, you can instantly install Ubuntu 7.10 on the desktop, use the Alternate disc to guide the computer, and select "Install in text" in the boot menu ", installing Ubuntu 7.10 With Alternate is smooth and can be completed. However, when the system is started, like the Live CD boot computer, a black screen is displayed when you enter the Gnome Desktop. Then, you can repeat the graphic interface several times and report the failure.

It seems that the graphics card driver integrated by Ubuntu 7.10 cannot drive the AMD AM690G integrated graphics card X1250. you cannot give up the opportunity to use this mainstream platform, so I want to avoid using the atigraphics card driver provided on the AMD official website. So go to the AMD official website on another machine download graphics DRIVER: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html

Store the driver file on a flash drive, connect the flash drive to the desktop, and start the desktop. When the desktop cannot access Gnome, press Alt + F2 (or F3 ~ You can run the following command to load the flash disk:

Run the following command:
$ Fdisk-l

At this time, a list is displayed, and the item that meets the flash disk parameters is found. For example, my flash disk is displayed as follows:

/Dev/sdb1, System is W95 FAT32 (I formatted my flash disk as FAT32), then create a directory for mounting the flash disk:

$ Mkdir/mnt/usb // you can define a directory, usb or udisk.

Now you can mount the flash drive:
$ Mount-t msdos/dev/sdb1/mnt/usb

If no error message is displayed, it is mounted. You can run the cd command to access/mnt/usb. After Entering/mnt/usb, you can use the cp command to copy the graphics card driver file to the hard disk.

After copying the file, go to the directory where the driver file is located and run the following command:
$ Sudo sh ati-driver-installer-8.40.4-x86.x86_64.run

In this case, the installation wizard of the graphics card driver is started, and then you can follow the Wizard. Basically, you do not need to perform any special operations. After installing the graphics card driver, run the following command to restart the computer:

$ Sudo reboot

After the restart, enter the Gnome desktop to display the graphic interface. A prompt dialog box may appear during the first startup. Click "Continue, at this time, Ubuntu 7.10 can finally enter the graphic interface on this platform. The first time you enter the desktop, the system notification area prompts restricted drivers.

Click the check box under "Enable". A prompt dialog box is displayed. Click "Enable Driver". Ubuntu automatically connects to the network to download the package: xorg-driver-fglrx, at the same time, you will also need to add the Ubuntu installation CD (if not), after installing this package, you will need to restart.

After the package is installed, even if Ubuntu 7.10 is installed, the video card can be correctly identified, and the display resolution can be automatically set to the optimal resolution. After the installation problem is solved, we should test and verify the other problems mentioned above.

The startup speed and running speed of installed Ubuntu 7.10 On this desktop are both very fast. Next, you should configure Ubuntu in a simple way:

1. Language Support

2. Adobe Flash Player For Mozilla Firefox:

An option is added when the Flash plug-in is automatically installed in Firefox. Gnash SWF Player is an open-source Flash project product.

Here we end the test report:
1. In the past, Ubuntu Live CD was launched on a platform based on Ati graphics card. It will be black before it enters the desktop. Will this problem happen in the new version? Obviously, the previous articles answered this question. In Ubuntu 7.10, there is still a problem that the Platform Based on Ati graphics card (X1xxx series) cannot access the desktop on a black screen.

2. The video card is an integrated graphics card of Ati. Let's see how this new version handles the driver of the video card. Do I need to install it manually? This requires you to manually install the AMD official graphics driver to enter the desktop, and then the Ubuntu restricted driver will automatically download the xorg-driver-fglrx package, so as to complete the installation of the graphics driver.

3. the hard disk is SATA2. Can Ubuntu load the hard disk normally? (This problem is not big, and almost never exists) No problem

4. Is the display resolution automatically set to the optimal resolution of the display after the video card driver is correctly installed and identified, without manual editing of xorg. conf? After the xorg-driver-fglrx package is installed, it is automatically set to the optimal resolution of the display after the computer is restarted.

5. The desktop Effect of Compiz cannot be started. It may be that Ati's graphics card driver cannot support desktop effects. This requires AMD to improve the atigraphics card driver and enhance support for Linux.

Whatever, although Compiz cannot be used, we still need to continue using Ubuntu. Other features of Ubuntu 7.10, such as adding two more things to the system notification area:

1. Search
2. Quick User Switching

Many users who have used Ubuntu 7.10 Beta have already experienced these two features. Now let's start using Ubuntu 7.10, which is a good operating system even if Compiz's Ubuntu is not enabled.
