X. Org server 1.5
Ubuntu 8.10 is loaded with the latest version of X. Org, which provides better support for Hot Plug-in devices. Basically, it allows most users to run normally without the "/etc/X11/xorg. conf" file.
Linux kernel 2.6.26
Alpha 4 contains kernel versions based on 2.6.26.2.
Encrypted private folder
By introducing the ecryptfs-utils package, Ubuntu 8.10 now supports "encrypted private folder", that is, each user has an encrypted ~ /Private folder.
You can place some encrypted documents here without worrying that the content will be viewed by others.

Guest session support
GNOME's "quick User Switching applet" now provides a function to start "guest sessions. This will create a temporary restricted account without a password. Visitors can use this account to complete some daily work, but cannot access other users' directories and some fixed data.
This function is useful when you need to borrow a computer temporarily for use by others.
Network Manager 0.7
The introduction of Network Manager 0.7.x has greatly enhanced the Network functions of Ubuntu 8.10. The following are some of the new features in Ubuntu 0.7:
* Manage the global connection function of the system (you can connect to the network without logging in)
* Connections to 3G networks (GSM/CDMA) are supported ).
* Supports managing multiple active connections.
* Supports management of PPP/PPPoE connections.
* Static IP addresses can be used to configure and manage connections.
* Supports the routing function for device management.
