1. install the samba service: sudo apt-get install samba
2. edit the smb. conf file in sudo gedit/etc/samba/smb. conf. (Note backup first)
3. Find the line; security = user
Replace
Security = user
Username map =/etc/samba/smbusers
Find [global]
Change workgroup = MSHOME
Workgroup = WORKGROUP
Displays charset = UTF-8
Unix charset = UTF-8
Dos charset = cp936
Then add
[Share]
Comment = Shared Folder with username and password
Path =/home/lsk/test
Public = yes
Writable = yes
Valid users = username
Create mask = 0700
Directory mask = 0700
Force user = nobody
Force group = nogroup
Available = yes
Browseable = yes
[Share] is the name of the shared folder in the LAN.
Valid users is used to allow network user accounts
4. sudo gedit/etc/samba/smbusers adds user accounts that are allowed to access
Add in smbusers
Username = "network username"
Here, user is the user in smb. conf.
5. If no user exists in the system, add the user.
Sudo useradd username
Edit User Password
Sudo smbpasswd-a username
Delete a user
Sudo smbpasswd-x username
