Canonical engineers confirmed that the new Google parent son Nexus5 would not receive official support from UbuntuTouch. UbuntuTouch developers will continue to use Nexus4 as the development platform, so that they can complete the development work within the planned cycle. If you are distracted to support Nexus5 and transfer it to the development platform, it will consume a lot of time and resources. Nexus5 will not be supported in the future, but will not be supported until at least May.
Canonical engineers confirmed that the new Google Nexus 5 won't be officially supported by Ubuntu Touch. Ubuntu Touch developers will continue to use Nexus 4 as the development platform, so that they can complete the development work within the planned cycle. If you are distracted to support Nexus 5 and transfer the development platform, it will consume a lot of time and resources. In the future, it is not ruled out that Nexus 5 will be supported (basically supported), but this work will not be performed at least before March (Ubuntu 14.04 ).
In addition, Because Ubuntu Touch is transferred to Android 4.4, it means that some Nexus devices will be out of support (expected by the end of January), including:
Nexus 10 (2012)
Nexus 7 (2012)
Galaxy Nexus
Ubuntu Touch developers explain that they focus on Nexus 4 and want to launch the simulator and the development progress when Ubuntu 14.04 is running.
Similarly, for tablets, they will focus on Nexus 7 (2013 ).
Although this news is disappointing, we should also understand that the Ubuntu team's current resources, time, and energy only focus on a single device can indeed reduce some of their burden, increase development progress.
In addition, although the official end of support for old devices, the Community power is powerful, just as the Community experts have put Galaxy Nexus on Android 4.4.
