UbuntuUnity looks beautiful!

It seems that every major website has reported the UbuntuUnity thing (report), and it looks amazing. In fact, Ubuntu is just another "Netbook" version. It seems that every major website has reported Ubuntu Unity, which looks amazing. In fact, Ubuntu Unity is just another "Netbook" version.

I used Ubuntu Netbook Edition and Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but changed the Launcher one after another. I switched from Clutter-based to ETK, and now I have returned to Clutter, it seems that there is no new idea at all.

However, I have read this Unity a little and it is indeed different. This time Ubuntu is really going to work on the Netbook version!

More specifically, Unity is the first step for Ubuntu to try new technologies.

Previously, Ubuntu used the Clutter 3D graphics library to build the Launcher of its Netbook version. However, the effect was average and it was not enough to create a good interactive desktop.

This time, Ubuntu no longer directly uses Clutter, but uses the core tool of GNOME 3.0: Mutter.

"Isn't GNOME Shell the core of GNOME 3.0? What is Mutter ?"

Technically speaking, Mutter is the core of GNOME 3.0, while GNOME Shell is only a plug-in based on Mutter ~

Mutter is a window manager developed based on Clutter and changed by Metacity. Just like Compiz, Mutter only supports 3D acceleration. In fact, Mutter has been applied in some places. For example, the previous Moblin is also based on the Mutter window manager.

To put it simply, Ubuntu Unity is Ubuntu's first desktop Shell that uses Mutter as its window manager to implement more interesting functions. Naturally, "Unity" is also a Mutter plug-in. From this perspective, it has a sibling relationship with GNOME Shell.

OK. Let's see what Unity looks like.

The figure shows the Expose effect of the Unity class, which is displayed according to the Ubuntu Logo.

The difference between Unity and the standard Desktop version is that Unity has a scaled-down upper panel, and there is a Dock-like thing on the left. There are Google search entries on the upper panel.

Check the Dock on the left. Have you found that the background color of each icon is different? Pretty cool!

The Dock will identify the currently opened application (with the arrow). If you right click, the following menu will be displayed, and the design is quite beautiful!

This is not the effect. If you click an icon to open a new application, the background color of the icon will still shine, and the effect is quite good!

Look at the glowing little fox.

Well, like other docks, drag and drop are also supported. Even worse, it not only supports drag-and-drop icons, but also supports drag-and-drop of the entire bar. You can simply drag a video if you have time.

In short, Ubuntu Unity is not as simple as a Launcher in the past, because it is based on the Mutter 3D Window Manager, it supports many functions involving window management.

Of course, it's just the earliest appearance of Unity, and it's already quite good for me. I believe that when Ubuntu 10.10, Windicator, Global Menu Bar, and other technologies are complete, ubuntu 10.10 Netbook is amazing!

At that time, do not make GNOME 3 eclipsed-but it should not. After all, Unity is only for the Netbook version.

Wait and see!
