The firmware of the vro is the first security line in the user's network. Therefore, you must keep the latest firmware. However, it is not easy to find firmware updates on the vendor's website. You need to open a browser, open the vendor's website, find a specific version of your vro model, download the file to your computer, and upload it to the vro through the appropriate location on the Web Control Panel.

Even more troublesome, manufacturers usually prepare several different versions for each vro, because they often update the vro, such as changing the chipset, but the version number remains unchanged.

So what is the solution? The answer is to make updates automated, at least easy to choose, so that you do not need to perform a long update process.

You can check the UPDATE function of your vro to see the configuration screen on its Web interface and whether the vro can automatically update itself. Here, I prefer the RangeMax of Belkin's N + Wireless and Netgear, because both routers support enabling router update from the menu. After setting, you don't have to worry about it and make sure you have the latest firmware.

Enable temporary Wireless Access

If you have temporary users or your neighbors need to use your network, will you allow them to access your entire network for a long time? Even if you believe them, how do you know their own security? For example, what should I do if my neighbor's child is using a laptop to access the Internet? If you only give the temporary user a vro password, you may modify this information after it does not use your network.

What's the best way? The answer is that you allow them to temporarily access the Internet, rather than shared drives or printers.

Vendors have started to enable this feature on their routers in various ways. For example, Belkin has an option called "hotel style)", which means that the user is directed to the login page on a Web interface, A temporary user enters a dedicated temporary password to access the network. Other vendors only set up independent wireless networks for temporary customers.

USB keys created with Cisco Valet are also useful. You need to run an automated setup routine on each temporary client. After that, the vro will set up an independent wireless network with different names and passwords and only allow Internet access.
