What is the difference between iconv and mb_convert_encoding in PHP?

Why the string encoded as GB18030, can be converted to Utf-8 by Iconv, with MB convertencoding not? The MB convertencoding encoded as GB2312 is available.

Mbstring does not gbk/gb18030 this code name, instead of cp936 (in fact, cp936 can not completely overwrite the GB18030, but the GBK character set may be overwritten, so generally there is no problem).

Both Iconv and mbstring are libraries for multibyte character processing, but the underlying implementation is different.


