"China has led the economy, but will it lead the world," The Daily Telegraph of September 18 wrote. Like other foreign leaders, Britain's prime minister, David Cameron, must be shocked to develop a jealous mentality, as he is due to start his first visit to China in one months. This shock and envy will not only be directed at politicians who have led the world's largest population but still have a certain degree of grasp of the fate of the country, but also from China's unbelievable development model. In the mid 1990s, the Asian financial crisis made China aware of its preparedness to deal with such disasters. How to slow down China's overheated growth was an impossible goal for Western policymakers, but China used its resources to reduce harm in the financial turmoil. For a variety of reasons, it has been suggested that the past 100 years are an American era, and that the future that is not long will belong to Asia. This is a common point of view, but it is also a false point of view. The most shocking thing about China's big cities is not its soaring skyscrapers or growing confidence, but the fact that the world is becoming more and more aware of the high speed of assimilation. Just 30 years ago, China had a relatively closed society, and the middle class of the growing country now had the same vision and ideas as Westerners. The recent debate over the exchange rate has shown that the country's borders are becoming blurred by increasingly intertwined trade flows. At the same time, there are many things we can do now in any corner of the world, which confirms the global assimilation of services. The difference in property and income between countries is far less important than that of the various strata within a country. This is the reason why the world will not belong to the United States or China after 100 years. We will usher in a truly globalized century. (王欣 translation)
