The United States and China pledged to quickly recognize the status of the market economy by way of cooperation (Zhang Tao), Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai, January 19, said, although the two sides at the summit on High-tech products to China, open investment and recognition of Chinese market economy status of positive progress, But it remains to be seen whether it will be implemented. "I used to listen to the stairs, Stray, and now the sound is approaching, but no one has to look at it," he told Caixin reporters at a briefing. He said he welcomed the progress made on the above issues, but "satisfied but not fully satisfied." "U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in a speech last week that China is currently focusing on three areas: the US exports High-tech products to China, more investment opportunities in the US and a market economy status recognition." He expressed his willingness to move forward on these issues, but said the outcome depended on the efforts made by the Chinese side. Mr Geithner suggested that China needed to reduce the government's role in the economy, change discriminatory policies against U.S. companies, remove subsidies and bias against domestic companies and technology, and make exchange-rate mechanisms more flexible. On January 19, China and the United States issued a joint statement that seems to have changed. The statement said China welcomed the US side's pledge to quickly recognize China's market economy status through a cooperative approach through the Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade. China welcomes discussions between the US and China on the reform of the export control system that the United States is pushing forward, and the potential impact of this reform on exports to the major trading partners of the United States, including China, in line with U.S. national security interests. While the Chinese and American leaders and related departments have discussed the issue of China's asset security in the United States on a number of occasions, it is not a major pressing issue. Cui Tiankai also said that the Chinese and U.S. leaders and the corresponding government departments have discussed the security of China's assets in the United States, but "now is not a major pressing issue."
