Design Thinking of designers

Tim Brown's so-called design thinking refers to the use of the sensitivity of designers and the design of designers to meet the technical achievable and commercial feasibility of the premise to meet the needs of people, and this statement about the designer to think about the three points of departure:

Longing (desirability)

recent I am in hospital, the hospital has a rule, they do not allow patients to use the bedside power supply, and given the reason is because the bedside design has oxygen export, and need to set aside for first aid equipment, and patients using electrical words may bring danger or inconvenience.

But, ironically, even if the slogan is on the wall, nobody buys it. Every morning when the nurse rounds the patient will be the electrical one by one unplug, or in the superior inspection before the thousand told the patient not to plug electrical appliances. But why do patients repeatedly break the rules? is the patient very naughty?

In my experience, the ward is always boring, and for chronically bedridden patients, it is almost the only pastime to keep in touch with the outside world, and the popularity of smartphones and the power of the batteries make it a habit to charge/recharge every day. As a patient, get out of bed always have a variety of inconvenience, only the phone on the bedside charge to ensure timely access.

Sockets in the design of the medical aspects of the technical needs, but did not take into account the psychological needs of the sick people. The flawed design spawned the wrong rules, and the patient's reasonable needs became a violation.

Design thinking is people and interaction as the center of thinking, designers have a strong empathy, can play a psychological role in the doctor and patients, can profoundly understand the current system of the individual is how to interact, what behavior is not expected to happen? Where is the problem? How the future should be improved.

Design needs to put human factors in the center, it is possible to turn a person's needs into a product needs, and then become a potential business opportunities.

Technical feasibility (feasibility) and commercial feasibility (viability)

Recently we want to organize in-house training in the form of workshop in our spare time. From the technical feasibility point of view, as long as the people who have mastered the training content (technical feasibility), we can not rigidly adhere to any form of training. But given the continued delivery of training (commercial viability), we must consider:

--spare time means you can't keep someone in the role of a lecturer, how to solve a lecturer problem?

-Internal/Part-time training means that participants may participate on and off, and how to get participants to participate whenever they are involved.

-How do you make the course more participatory, since the participants volunteered?

These factors will drive the training of the designer to choose the form of training.

Designers need to think about solutions in a human-centered way, and he must also think about whether the organization will be able to produce the products/services that meet the requirements in the foreseeable future, and whether the products/services can be provided consistently. The process of design is a process from divergence to convergence, considering technical feasibility and commercial feasibility is the process of forcing the designer to think about the limitation and then tailoring the choice.

Design is a discovery process

Back to the design puzzle, the TV show designers will solve the problem, he through keen observation and in the bar of hard thinking, in and beauty customers drink coffee when inadvertently heard: "When confused, think back to their original point bar" such a Zen, and then Flash, the perfect solution to the problem, Become a part of the design world.

It is easy to accept the message that design is a mysterious process that hides the only correct solution behind a certain door, our task is to find the key, the talented, unruly not trained designers, to find the mysterious solution, kill to the market, the rest is to use a large scale of gold, Joe Master must have done so.

In fact, design is a process that can be learned and repeated. The design needs to start with a problem, simplifying the problem with a certain assumption (a problem with the location of the socket), designing a solution around this assumption (a new location), verifying that the assumption is true (see if the user's behavior changes). If you change the position of the socket, the user's behavior does not change any, we can know that the assumption may not be established, the problem may be elsewhere, you need to adjust the assumptions to find a new solution.

So there is no flash, there are designers of professional training and careful observation and distribution of thinking attitude. Design is not the process of solving problems in essence, but the process of discovering problems, and using iterative approach to solve problems. In Drucker's parlance: the value of knowledge workers is not in thinking about solutions (efficient work), but in thinking about what is the problem? (Productive work)

Design is an iterative process

If we realize that design is a process of discovering problems, it is easier to accept the working methods of iterations, and to iterate through such processes as:

--Questions raised (inspiration)

--Proposal, validation (ideation)

--the landing and promotion of the Program (Implementation).

As a process that uses the initial form of a product or product to continually validate assumptions and approach core issues (build to think). We also naturally think about how to validate assumptions in more realistic environments, how to validate assumptions faster, and thus reduce the cost of finding solutions. This is why the rapid prototyping was born.

About everyone's design thinking

Not just what to do, but what is important.

--think again about the rationality of reasonable things? For example, why must there be no plug power identification?

--Visualizing thinking, learning visual language, expressing concepts in the form of drawing, forcing the left brain to think.

--the idea is worthless, create an environment where you can exchange opinions and ideas.

There are no problems with only solutions, more alternatives and evaluations.

--Archive The current design process in various forms

--to be a conscientious and thoughtful person.

The above is what I understand about design thinking's fur, a Dirt thief (@ A dirt Thief) blog is a good understanding of the design thinking reference.
