In order to build a multi-site data ecosystem, enterprises need to further promote the development of SDN, so software defines WAN operations.
The Software Definition Network (SDN) is the last step in creating a fully virtual data center, in the cloud computing and large data age, for most businesses, a data center is far from satisfying their needs.
What they need is a virtual multi-site data ecosystem that can be parsed into very limited instances or strengthened for large-scale computing environments. But to do this, businesses need to start pushing SDN to the WAN area.
Requirements for Software definition Wan
This was the main issue at the recent meeting of the Open Network user Group (ONUG). According to Mike Fratto of it connection, the industry generally believes that the telecommunications service provider market has been too slow in deploying dynamic WAN connections. As a result, businesses will need to accelerate this pace, and the key application of software definition WAN is bulk storage moving from site to site. Placing an abstract [note] layer on the WAN will help to achieve this goal, which will optimize the network for ongoing workflows while reducing onsite hardware at remote sites and branches.
Emerging Software Definition WAN solutions
Campaigns around the software definition wan have begun to heat up. Start-up Viptela has recently begun to appear in our vision, and the company is committed to introducing a new, more flexible and manageable WAN architecture. According to Vice president Jairam Prabagaran, the system integrates routing, security, and network segmentation to a single software-based architecture, providing an easy way to put WAN abstractions on MPLS, broadband Internet, and other wide-area architecture IQ. The company has spent two years developing secure extensible networks (SEN), including virtual edge routers, controller devices, and network management and automation stacks.
At the same time, the new company Cloudgenix has built its software definition Enterprise Wan (Sdewan) solution, which focuses on management and abstraction of central policy and low-level network functions such as firewall maintenance and threat protection. The system has a business policy abstraction layer that connects users and applications, as well as virtual network components that eliminate many traditional VPN, ACL, and QoS management tasks, and network capabilities-eliminating standard WAN point-to-point configuration processes. The company said the system could eliminate five times times the remote infrastructure.
Well-known internet companies are also shifting their attention to wide area networks. For example, Ciena and Brocade have teamed up to build a dynamic cloud computing architecture designed to simplify the movement of data and resources between data centers. This package includes the Ciena V-wan transport platform and the Brocade Application Resource agent. This solution brings advanced services, including on-demand configuration capacity, cloud burst, disaster recovery, and so on. The ultimate goal is to achieve a broad cloud deployment through dynamic resource configuration across different sites, eventually developing the WAN into a long-term LAN.
The concept of cloud computing as a data center is not new, but it is only recently that the industry is beginning to realize what it takes to achieve this. The Software definition network is an important part, but only if it can be extended to the entire data center, cloud computing and all the endpoints between.
