As new technologies such as cloud computing, large data, solid-state drives (SSD), fusion systems and automation become more sophisticated, the design and operation of data centers becomes more complex. Businesses need to do something in 2013 to maximize the benefits of their data centers.

If companies want to maximize the benefits of their data centers, they need to think about their practices in 2013, market analyst IDC said.
Donna Taylor, IDC research director, said at the data Pew World Conference in London last week that new technologies are being perfected, data centers designed and operations more complex. In particular, it includes cloud computing, large data, solid-state drives (SSD), fusion systems, and automated technologies.
Cloud
Taylor says IDC sees public, private and mixed clouds across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and is being used by more and more people, and companies are less worried about cloud computing security than in previous years. But Europe, the Middle East and Africa still have a long way to go to use the cloud less than America.
Large data
Taylor says companies are not spending money on big data. "We found that some people don't understand what big data means and they miss out on a huge opportunity." ”
Nearly half of the 1603 companies involved in IDC's European Vertical Capital Markets (44%) think they will add more capacity to enable them to make use of big data.
Storage
The rise of solid-state drives can help data centers to fully develop their capabilities.
"This new type of storage will change the performance of the data center, but there are also indications that a very small amount of SSD can replace a large number of disks in the datacenter, which can affect power cooling and space occupancy in the datacenter," Taylor said. ”
Fusion System
The management of storage, server, network, and storage servers is optimized so that they work together, and this whole is called a fusion system.
IDC's converged system survey last September showed that more advanced and larger customers use aggregation systems to improve business agility and employee productivity.
Taylor said 21% of the 300 companies surveyed agreed to use the fusion system, which they have been using, or within the next three years. "From the end-user's point of view, the converged system provides so much performance that it should be able to overcome any vendor lock-in issues." ”
Automation
Data centers are increasingly reliant on automation so they can put their IT staff on more important tasks, Taylor said. She added: "They want to give their IT staff more room, so they can not only efficiently complete the data center work, but more importantly, they will bring more revenue to the organization." ”
