Germany 17th set up a special committee to explore how to bring the popular Happiness index into the national economic statistics. The Commission will make recommendations for improving the current statistical approach to socio-economic development in 2.5, incorporating more human indicators such as education, the environment and quality of life into the statistics. "The new statistical approach will provide policymakers with better guidance on how our society is going, whether people live better or worse," said Daniela Corbey, the head of the program. Earlier, a number of countries had begun to explore new methods of socio-economic statistics. British Prime Minister David Cameron last November tasked the National Bureau of Statistics with designing new statistical measures to assess the "overall well-being" of British society. In 2009, French President Nicolas Sarkozy invited Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz to design a method of introducing happiness index into French socio-economic statistics.
