Managing server workloads is a complex task in any environment, especially when it comes to virtualization and cloud computing. Of course, there are many solutions to manage server workloads.

The recently launched Librato Load Manager version 2.0 software, Librato company, which has been using Evergrid's name, can manage both physical and virtual application workloads in x86 environments without modifying the application or operating system.

Librato, vice president of marketing, Ameet Dhillon, said the company's mission is to find a balance of resources to run together to achieve business goals, especially at peak resource usage.

The complete approach is first to check how the application works. This helps to make the right policy. If completeness is the basis, diversity is another foundation. Dhillon says users don't want a solution that applies only to one part of the infrastructure. They will be applied throughout the enterprise. Therefore, it is to be applied in virtual and physical and multiple operating system environments.

So this new version of the software supports windows in addition to Linux, whether the operating system is a client operating system or a host operating system.

Dhillion explains that since the software is packaged at the user level, it does not depend on any management program. The ability to monitor, manage, and control without having to be modified is the greatest value of the software.

Like typical workload management software, Librato Load Manager monitors and controls computing resources such as processors, memory, network input/output, and storage input/output.

Because it is based on policy, the Load Manager is designed to introduce user data to achieve dynamic rebalancing of the software, thus providing the right system resources for enterprise applications to achieve optimized performance and predictable service levels. Calculated capacity that is not used will be reassigned dynamically. This means that the server is not idle. Maximize the use of resources.

Dhillon An example of a "sponge" consolidation. In sponge consolidation, a single server can have a dedicated application, and the second application will "absorb" the remaining usage resources. The administrator assigns 100% of the resources to the primary application. This "sponge" application does not allocate any resources unless the primary application does not use these resources. Sponge applications, he explains, usually refer to "compute and batch" applications that can run after work.

Although this application is easy to use in virtualized environments, these applications do not necessarily have to run in a virtual machine environment. Overall, workload management is a complement to virtualization. Considering using such a solution in an environment where virtualization technology is heavily used is not a logical leap.

Of course, many large companies may already be using Tivoli or OpenView. Dhillon explained that these products do not meet the fine needs of our customers. This is a higher level of demand, not just the application itself. We are closer to the level you can reach.

Librato Load Manager 2.0 software will start sales this November 1. In addition to supporting Windows Server 2003 and 2008 environments, this new software adds monitoring capabilities and provides users with a comprehensive window to view application resource requirements for more accurate capacity planning.

The Load Manager software can also be used for capacity planning purposes. Administrators are able to use this software to determine that an application can allow managers to better allocate resources, regardless of the amount of resources it consumes.
