HP's Virtualsystem for Microsoft includes HP Server and Hyper-V virtualization software designed to help businesses quickly deploy virtualized workloads.

Hewlett-Packard unveiled a new server, preconfigured by Microsoft software in Monday, designed to help businesses quickly deploy virtualized workloads.

HP's Virtualsystem for Microsoft includes HP Server and Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization software, and helps customers quickly deploy software that includes SharePoint, Exchange server, and SQL Server, Jeff Carlat revealed. He is Hewlett-Packard's industry standardization server and software marketing, enterprise storage, server and network department head.

Virtualization workloads, hardware, and other resources can be effectively monitored with HP's insight management and Microsoft's System Center technology.

The server provides a way to help customers build private and public clouds and connect the two to a hybrid cloud, he explains. Built for Microsoft, Virtualsystem uses the same architecture as the traditional HP Cloudsystem, which combines storage, networking, and servers to effectively address the latency problems associated with configuration tuning for cloud deployments.

Virtualization does not work as a common preferred scenario for various cloud deployments. Service providers like Facebook need to deal with countless small network interactions every day, so the compression process is essential, and the company has opted to use thousands of Low-power servers as a hardware infrastructure.

Some new applications need to be scaled in a different way than they used to, but most traditional applications will be able to achieve the desired functionality in a virtual environment, Frances Guida, the HP Company's cloud solutions and infrastructure, enterprise server, storage, and networking department manager. Virtualization technology allows enterprises to flexibly expand and shrink their processing capacity to respond to changing workloads at any time, he notes.

HP and Microsoft are trying to make it easier for customers to migrate apps into the cloud, Guida claims. HP has introduced VMware's virtualization technology in the creation of Virtualsystem products.

The Microsoft-type Virtualsystem will be launched in November this year, priced at about 175,500 dollars. The models listed together are divided into two--vs1, which are applicable to enterprises with a virtual machine number of 750 sets, while VS2 is suitable for those enterprises with a number of virtual machines in the 2500 sets. The price does not include licensing fees for Microsoft-related applications.

VS1 can be configured to manage up to 8 hp ProLiant DL380 G7 servers, 1Gb and 10Gb Ethernet connections, and a P4500 lefthand SAN (i.e., storage area network) system with capacities ranging from 14TB to 57TB. The VS2 can harness up to 12 hp ProLiant BL 460c G7 servers, including multiple network and storage connectivity modules, while the lefthand SAN capacity can be expanded to a maximum of 84TB.

Hewlett-Packard also unveiled Virtualsystem for Superdome 2, targeted at companies such as financial institutions that have been using HP's Superdome series of high uptime servers. These systems are typically run on top of the Intel Itanium processor and HP's HP-UX operating system.

High-end servers typically require extra customization, but the factory configuration of the HP virtualization system includes some of its own technologies, such as 3PAR storage, Carlat said. HP has not announced the specific price of the Superdome type 2 virtualsystem.
