Sony Group is evaluating the possibility of selling Sony's mobile communications division or finding partners to operate, according to the Taiwan electronic times.
And the reason? Don't make money.
Samsung has been a bit overwhelmed by the strong impact of Chinese manufacturers, and Sony is harder to resist, slashing the expected value of smartphone shipments from 50 million to 41 million in fiscal 2014.
Sony Mobile also began restructuring, appointing a new CEO and President 10 o'clock Yu-shu (Hiroki Totoki). Under his leadership, Sony Mobile has closed its research and development center in Beijing, and its internal strategy has shifted to focus on high-end models.
The Taiwanese ODM maker, which is responsible for Sony mobile phones, believes Sony's high-end machines are still very competitive, but they are too slow to react to market trends in the low-end sector, where there is no cost-effective model to survive.
