Most businesses have very large numbers of data, more accurately internal requirements for stored data, and redundant copies of the data that protects many of the updates that are constantly being updated.
In this era of cost reduction and integration, we must ask ourselves if there is a better solution to the problem of managing excess. Unfortunately, the company has been dealing with this problem for more than 10 of years. And so far, addressing the main storage management issues is the choice of technology, unbridled data growth, poor resource utilization and ineffective planning. Now that the latest technology is cloud storage, can it be better than other technologies?
One of the main reasons for the early San to get rid of decentralized, direct-attached storage and move to storage arrays and SAN infrastructures is that it improves resource utilization for greater efficiency. While San systems can offer other benefits, such as increased availability and recoverability, their utilization is still less than optimal in many environments.
The next big move is information lifecycle management. By developing a storage allocation and a distribution strategy based on business data, theoretically, we can reduce the cost by reducing the number of expensive high-end storage. As a result, a large number of businesses have purchased additional tiers of storage, but not materialized savings-at least as far as expected.
One recent new technology has been the automatic streamlining of configuration, which is still a requirement because of current application and operating system constraints. The other is duplicate data deletion, which is primarily designed to achieve a more advantageous cost point for backup-to-disk than for tape. Automatic compact configuration and data deduplication can improve storage efficiency in the future.
Regulatory failure We cannot ignore the fact that companies are struggling with storage-efficient issues, and that the actual cost of storing data is falling steadily and falling fast. So why is the problem so difficult to solve?
To a large extent, the answer is that most companies still lack comprehensive storage management policies and data management policies. This problem is due to the lack of data and storage utilization, the measurement of trends, the reporting becomes more serious, for example, data cleanup, once the data is created forever. It is typically stored, backed up, replicated, or archived.
Storage management may present a good opportunity for cloud storage. Cloud storage provides services as tier two or more storage tiers. Unstructured data can be lowered to the cloud to move data manually or automatically on a rule-based basis. In addition to releasing capacity and slowing down the acquisition speed of the device, this data will no longer need to be backed up or replicated, so the multiplier effect can be eliminated. Furthermore, if cloud service providers are truly service-oriented, they are likely to provide more comprehensive service-level agreements and reporting data than in-house.
