I,VMWareLinuxInstallation and Use
1. Download the Linux image (iso file). I am using the RedHat Linux5 server.
2. Create a new virtual machine in Vmware
3. Load the iso file
4. Enter the user name and password
Note: UserAnd RootUse this password.
5. Select the Virtual Machine installation location
6. Define the virtual hard disk size (8 GB recommended)
7. Start Linux installation (automatic)
8. After the installation is successful, start Linux (automatic)
Install VMware Tools (VMware tool software, installed in Linux)
9. Enter the user name and password on the GUI.
10. You can see the Linux GUI.
Ii. Linux shared folders under Vmware
1. Select Shared Folders in Vmware to open the sharing wizard.
2. Select the folder to be shared (folder under windows xp)
3. After the Wizard is complete, you can view the shared folder in the/mnt/hgfs/directory of Linux. Now you can use the files on the host.
Ii. Linux Internet access configuration in Vmware
(1) Use bridging to access the Internet (virtual machines connect directly to the virtual network card and use different IP addresses from the host)
1. Set the vmware client network connection to the bridging mode:
2. Set the Vmnet8 IP address to automatically obtain
3. set Intranet network settings for linux (note DNS settings: it is best to set the Intranet gateway as DNS. In addition, if you are using broadband Internet access, use the ipconfig-all command in windows to view the DNS address provided by your service provider)
4. Set Linux IP addresses
5. After modification, click "OK" and activate the selected NIC (usually eth0) under "network configuration" (click "Activate").
6. Run the PING command to check whether the connection is successful.
Now, the Linux System in VMware is accessible. Currently, the system and host in the Virtual Machine use different IP addresses.
Note: If activation fails, it is usually because of IP address conflict. replace an IP address in the VM.
You can also run the "service network restart" command to restart the NIC.
(2) Nat
1. Set the Virtual Machine network to Nat
2. Set the network on which you access the Internet through windows to share with vnet8. Generally, the fixed IP address is "Local Connection", and the broadband access is "pppoe connection ".
3. Open the network connection and you can see that the "local connection" has been shared.
4. View IP addresses in Nat mode. (In VMware, edit-> Virtual Network Editor-> Nat)
4. Set the IP address in the VM to the IP address above.
5. After activation, you can use the ping command to test the network. The VM and the host are using the same IP address.
