A breakthrough in sustainable energy and automotive design led a team of engineers to build the world's first solar home car. The Dutch research team made the world's first "positive energy" car. This car produces more energy than it uses, and in addition, it has enough room to hold a home of four.
The car, called "Stella/Stella", has large solar panels on the top and can travel 250 miles (about 400 kilometers) in the absence of sunlight. With electricity, it travels up to 420 miles (about 672 kilometers) in sunny days.
It travels nearly twice times more than a standard electric car that was first charged. The car is made of the most advanced lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, weighing only 380 kilograms, much lighter than ordinary electric cars.
"Because the car was parked in front of your house or office for 90% hours and only 10% of the time in 12 months of the year, it makes more energy than it uses," says Lex Hofslot of the University of Science and Technology, who heads the research group. The car produces twice times more energy than the normal distance. ”
The car will soon get a license from the Dutch authorities. The research team believes the car will be lighter and more effective in the future. Solar panels are a solution to sustainable energy in the future. They can enhance car performance.
Hofslot said: "This car is very expensive, because it is a prototype, hand-made." But when it comes to mass production, an average family can afford it. The cost of solar cells on top of the roof is only 2600 pounds. Our future design will focus on more comfortable, more practical and more energy-saving features. ”
