Scott Price, chief executive of Wal-Mart Asia, said in an interview in Tuesday that the company plans to add 40-50 Wholesale stores in India in the next four years. Besche Wal-Mart currently has 20 wholesale stores in India. Besche said Wal-Mart was quite determined to expand into the Indian market and was confident of its ability to achieve growth through this model.
Besche said last October that it would suspend plans to open retail outlets in India and end a joint venture with Bharti Enterprises LTD. India's regulatory regime has made it difficult for Wal-Mart, which requires 30% of its products and services to be purchased from small local businesses.
