6.1 Configuring SQL Server products with tools
Introduction to the 6.1.1 Configuration tool
SQL Server Configuration Manager (SSCM) is the most appropriate tool in order to configure the server and client for the SQL Servers product.
SSCM was first introduced from SQL Server 2005, and it can manage not only the services associated with SQL Server, but also the properties of the client.
If multiple instances are installed, SQL Server Setup may install multiple versions of SSCM on a single computer. Each version of the SSCM can be backwards compatible. For example, SQL Server 2014 SSCM can identify the associated service for a SQL Server 2012 instance, whereas SQL Server 2012 SSCM does not recognize the associated service for a SQL Server 2014 instance.

6.1.3 Services for managing remote computers
You can create a custom Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that uses an MMC to manage another computer.
To open the Microsoft Management console, click Start, tap Run, type mmc, and then click OK. Then on the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.

In the available snap-in list, select Computer Management. Click Add to add this snap-in to the selected snap-in list.

In the Computer Management dialog form, select Another computer in the this snap-in will always manage option group, and enter the name or IP address of another computer in the string box, or browse to a different server on the network. When you are finished, click OK.

After you connect to the remote computer, click the OK button in the Add or remove snap-in form to return to the administration console. Note that the computer name in the Computer Management node of the tree pane changes.
If you also need to manage other computers in the MMC, repeat the steps above to add the other Computer Management snap-in to the console root node.
Expand Computer Management, services and applications, and the SQL Server Configuration Manager node, and then you can configure the SQL Server product for another computer.
