Oracle, a famous software company, has achieved great success since it switched to the Linux platform in 2004. Oracle has now become the largest database software vendor on the Linux platform, and maintained a strong growth momentum.
According to statistics, in the Linux database market in 2004, the market share of the Oracle system reached 81%, IBM was 17%, and other database products accounted for less than 3%.
Since Oracle released its first commercial database system for Linux in 1999, Oracle has become a strong advocate of Linux. Linux, an open-source operating system, not only makes up for the technical defects of the Oracle system in terms of applications and databases, but also is accepted by more and more users with the characteristics of low cost, small size and fast running speed.
Charles Phillips, president of Oracle, predicts that nearly half of oracle users will use the Linux operating system in the next five years. "The Oracle system runs more stably and easily on Linux, and the Linux technology prospects are very good. Therefore, more and more users are using Oracle Linux ." Phillips said, "Now 20% of oracle users use the Linux system, and this data will continue to improve. I think the number of Oracle Linux users will exceed 50% in the next five years !"
Phillips also mentioned that currently, 1500 software companies support Oracle Applications on Linux.
Phillips also stressed Oracle's efforts in the Linux field. Oracle launched a Linux database in 1998, which is the first step of oracle. Two years later, the company developed 64-bit Linux databases for the server market. Another major measure of Oracle is to create its own Open-Source System Lab, which forms an oracle Linux kernel team to provide code-level technical support for the Oracle system.
Oracle Linux is not only adopted by small and medium-sized enterprises, but also selected Oracle Linux for large companies in the United States. Amazon.com (Amazon) uses the Oracle Linux database's RAC (Real Application Cluster, Real Application Cluster) technology, and Van Der Bilt University has also built a grid computing system through Oracle Linux.
Grid computing is one of the main selling points of Oracle Linux. enterprises can build a "Grid" system with multiple computers, replacing a single, expensive, and unscalable dedicated system. RAC is the core technology that Oracle databases support the grid computing environment. Its emergence solves an important problem facing traditional database applications: the contradiction between high performance, high scalability and low price.
"Linux is the key to grid technology. You need a standard organization to plan computers in the grid. Linux is the heart of the Grid ."
At present, Oracle has officially released the second version of Oracle Database 10 Gb, and the new version of Oracle Cluster File System 2 (File System on the shared volume group) is released on the second day of this week ), it has been used by large companies such as McKesson and Yantra.
