JMF, the full name is the Java Media Framework, which can use audio, video, or other time based multimedia in Java applets and application. The multimedia formats supported by JMF are as follows: AIFF (. AIFF), AVI (. avi), GSM (. gsm), Hotmedia (. mvr), mid (. mid), MPEG-1 (. mpg) (that is, common VCD files), MPEG-2 (. mp2) (That is, common DVD files), QuickTime (. mov), Sun Audio (. au), Wave (. wav); JMF to RTSP (real time streaming Protocol real-Time flow Control protocol support: RTSP is also recently added to the JMF, which enables JMF based clients to interact with the server via RTSP, requesting data flow from the media

Supported Media Formats

JMF supports audio sample rates from 8KHz to 48KHz. This is cross-platform version of JMF only supports the following RA Tes:8, 11.025, 11.127, 22.05, 22.254, 44.1, and KHz.

The JMF 2.1.1 Reference implementation supports the media types and formats in the table listed. In this table:

· D indicates the format can be decoded and presented.

· E indicates the media stream can be encoded in the format.

· Read indicates the media type can is used as input (read from a file)

· Write indicates the media type can is generated as output (written to a file)
